I just realized that I haven't called my OBGYN to tell them i'm pregnant. they just emailed me a reminder that I have my yearly checkup this Thursday.  Do you think I should call and tell them ahead of time that i'm pregnant?

I've been seeing the RE every week but never even thought to call the OB

UPDATE: so they cancelled my appt for Thursday and sent me to the scheduling line to schedule my first OB appt. I don't know when they'll want that. I did have an appt. with the RE this morning and all is going well and he's very happy with everything. baby is measuring right on track and hb was 175. we also were able to see the little hands and feet today! its so crazy how much changes in a week!

Re: calling my OB (updated)

  • Have you been released from your OB yet?  I'd say it's not a bad thing to tell your OB, but if it's still going to be a while until your RE releases you, I wouldn't think you'd need to see your OB for anything pg related.

  • @jennahack I haven't been released to my OB yet.
  • I had my yearly scheduled right after I got my BFP and I went ahead and let them know so we could cancel the appt.  I actually chose to go to an OB over staying with my RE for longer since I am out of pocket and the RE cost way more per visit.

that makes sense. are you not supposed to get your pap done when pregnant?

That's a good question.  I thought for sure my OB was going to do a pap at my 1st OB visit until they saw I'd just had it done in April.

  • I would tell them and ask if they want you to cancel the appt. My OB did a pap at my first pg related appt even though I had just had one a few months prior so maybe they will just wait and do the pap when you come after being released by your RE.

  • They will still do a pap early in your pregnancy if they see you are due up for one. At least my OB would've had I needed one, however I had just had one about a month before getting pregnant.

You know...I really thought they would do one, but they didn't.  I was due for one, but when I said I had one last Sept (2012) he didn't seem concerned.
