wasssup

Yep that's a lame title, but I am just lame today.

What's up ladies?

Today is my day off but I am still fretting about work. I have a serious run of intensive care patients. Ones I leave over night and pray they make it until morning. Thankfully so far they have but good gracious I worry all night/ weekend. This morning I am off, but I told the tech to call me because I have a serious case and wouldn't stop worrying until I knew how he was doing. She said he is a totally different dog this morning, hungry and happy and ready to go out. I could do a happy dance I am so thankful.

Other than worrying about my patient I hope to make lots of goodies in the kitchen today. Mini cakes for a cake walk at church this weekend as well as homemade pasta for the freezer and bread too. We shall see...

  • Morning Ladies! Your title made me smile and remember the Bud commerical aggie. So I am in favor! Not too much gong on here today. Work as usual. We found out that they finally hired a boss for my department. They have been trying to hire a boss for two years. I have mixed feelings about it. It will be nice to have representation here but I don't want someone watching over my shoulder. Hopefully he is a good boss. I have had some terrible bosses. Engineers make terrible bosses. Wrong type of personality for the job.

Aggie: Glad to hear your patient is doing better. Happy dance!! Good Luck with all the baking/cooking! Home made pasta is always something I wanted to try but never had. Sounds so tough and fancy!

  • Degrea I hope you get s good boss. I agree most enginerds do not make good bosses!

And pasta is so super easy Degrea! I have the kitchenaid attachment. And as long as you aren't making ravioli it isn't even that time consuming. It's easier than bread or cookies I think.

  • Aggie: You have something like this...

    http://www.amazon.com/KitchenAid-KPRA-Roller-Attachment-Mixers/dp/B00004SGFS

I thought about asking Santa for one but I wasn't sure I would use it. What are the steps. Do you make the dough is the mixer than just run it through the machine? You said you were freezing the pasta does that work well?

  • yes I have that one! I also got THIS extruder set.  Both are great, but if I had to choose one I would definitely choose the one you found.

The pasta roller can make lasagna, fettuccine, and spaghetti as well as filled pastas such as ravioli.  So I think it is a little more versatile.  The extruder is best for tubed pasta such as elbow macaroni.  I do think the extruder is easier to make spaghetti, but I would get it JUST for the spaghetti.

I actually make the dough on the counter.  You basically combine egg and flour until blended then you kneed it until the right consistency.  You probably could do all this in the mixer, but I like to get my hands on the dough.  I am the same way with bread, I use a mixer but I always finish with my hands.

I also have an excellent Pasta Cookbook which I highly recommend.  It has tons of dish recipes, noodle recipes and when to use dried vs fresh pasta.   It is where I learned I could freeze the pasta.  To be honest, I have yet to try and cook frozen pasta but from what it says in the book it should be just like boiling dried pasta so I want to try it.   ( The pasta recipe in the book is slightly different than the one that comes with the pasta attachments and I have had better luck with it than the kitchenaid recipe)

  • oh and I just got a call from the rescue organization and they are coming by to do a home visit in less than an hour. EEK!  I am worried about the home visit (although I have been running around like a mad hen getting the place tidy) but I am more excited that this means we will be getting a puppy sooooon!

  • This post was from earlier.....forgot to push enter. Morning!! My dog tore open a bag of used diapers and kleenexs last night while we were gone. We think he just tore them and didn't consume any or not that much....we can't afford that vet bill. My sisters dog ate a whole diaper once and that was expensive she said. We cloth diaper so we've never really worried about this before but may daycare girls are all in disposables. I had a bag from yesterday I forgot to take out when we left.

  • eww! haha echo dogs can be so gross!

And yeah... surgery to remove a diaper is not cheap! I can confirm that for ya.

  • Also very exciting about the puppy aggie!!

And degrea I hear you on the engineers and their personalities. Two of my sisters are civil and my bil is a software one. While the civils I know aren't to terrible I can only imagine working for a software engineer..
  • We are praying  he is fine.My sister said her dog was out of it by the next morning and they knew. My dog is himself - being completely annoying at times. I'm not able to go out and make sure he is pooping but he isnt lacking in energy.
  • Software Engineer are very close to electrical engineers which is what I am. Some of us could be great bosses others not so much.

Echo: Hope your puppy is okay. Silly dog!
