Total newb question

So I feel like an idiot asking this, but I'm going to ask anyway... My cycles have always been pretty text book (28 days, O CD14), but this month was different.  According to my monitor, I O'd on CD10. I know that's nothing to be alarmed about, just out of the ordinary for me.  So does this mean AF will likely come 4 days early (2 weeks after I O, making it a 24 day cycle), or will my cycle remain 28 days, making this a 2 and 1/2 ww? I know none of you know my body and clearly I don't know it as well as I thought I did, but I just wanted to get some opinions on which you think is more likely. (Or if there is there is a clear-cut, simple answer and I'm that uneducated.) Basically, I'm wondering when I should test.  Obviously I could wait and see if AF shows up, but I'm impatient and the 2ww is long enough already. I hope this question didn't make any of you roll your eyes; I really do feel like a GP dunce right now! TIA for your help!

Re: Total newb question

  • Your LP (luteal phase i.e. the amount of time between O and AF) generally stays the same, so I would expect a 24 day cycle if AF usually shows up 14 days after you O.  It an vary by a day or two, but a 4 day variation seems like a lot.

  • Ditto @botanicalbliss. LP is usually a regular thing, O date varying is common.

  • I agree with the ladies above. Luteal phase is a constant, but O day can vary.  If you usually have a two week wait, you can expect that it remains two weeks this time and AF would be due around CD24.

  • LP usually doesn't vary. I would expect AF to show 4 days early.

  • I would tend to agree with PPs, but...my LP has varied by up to 4 days. I've had a couple of 15-day LPs and a couple of 11-day LPs. So...yeah. If you're usually 14 days though, then just test then, since I wouldn't expect your LP to increase by 4 days at that length.
