Have you gone/do you go to a chiropractor?

My company is having their annual health fair today. There are activities, massages, goody bags, and vendors who come to set up tables and pass out information/drum up business.

Well, a chiropractic firm is here today, and they had a fun little EMG tool to check how tense your neck and lower back muscles are based on spinal nerve condition (or something like that). I got checked out, and since I get migraines and my lower back tends to get rather stiff and sore when I have to stand for a while, I figured I'd set up an initial appt. It's in a couple of weeks, and I'm wondering what I'm getting into!

When I am having issues I go every two weeks, then maintain with once a month after that. I just feel so much better all the way around when I go. A lot of people dont believe in it, but for $5.60 a session, I figured why not. Now I am hooked.

I know people that go for treatment of migraines. My grandmother did. She refused to go for so long and finally after day 3 of a migrane she let my aunt take her and it cut the time and severity of the migranes down to maybe 1 every 3-4 months instead of 2 a month. She was even able to stop the meds she took to prevent them which she hated because it made her shakey.

  • I said yes once, but it was once for 4 months/3 x a week. It was awesome. It was just after my car accident and it eventually healed my whiplash. I'd keep going but can't afford the copays for that right now. Hope it helps you!

  • YES!! I freaking adore the chiropractor... He's helped me with so much... back, SI joint, and neck (headaches). I almost always recommend chiro to people, but make sure you do some research on practices before you just go to anyone. I have noticed such a huge difference since I've been going.

I should add, the guy I see is out of network so insurance doesn't pay crap for it. I usually only go once every month or two, but I am willing to pay the $45 each visit because it does me that much good.

In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my LIGHT, my STRENGTH, and my SONG!

  • I have never been to one, but H has.

He used to go to a traditional chiropractor, and then started going to one that only re-aligns your neck. He said that this new one has made a huge difference, and they guarantee you only have to do 3 sessions to get straightened out.  His insurance didn't cover this one, but he went the 3 times over a year ago and has said he doesn't need to go back yet.

He will more than likely need to go again when his neck gets out of alignment, but it's been worth it for him (He stands on his feet for 12 hrs/day and lifts 40-70lbs constantly).

  • If you go it's very important that you see a "straight" chiropractor. None of this new age froufrou baloney where they're essentially glorified massage therapists who are trying to sell you crap. I would very much recommend seeing a chiropractor (my grandfather and two uncles are chiropractors). But it's important that you do your research first and they're taking X-rays. Imagine a clomid/IUI cycle without ultrasound monitoring. Don't do it half assed and it's all good.

  • I'm also in the professional bias camp, but also make sure that your chiro is one who gives you exercises to keep the back/pelvis/neck in alignment. If he's just cracking and sending you packing with no exercises to fix the imbalance, you will just continue to need to see him month after month and year after year, resulting in excessively mobile joints and more trouble in the long run. Some chiropractors take this into consideration, most don't. Just my $.02 to save you &1000s.

Oooo girl, adjustments are far from painful! At least for me!  It makes me feel SO much better! The only time it can be slightly uncomfortable is during ART (Active Release Technique) but that's only because they're basically putting pressure/massage on certain spots to stretch the muscle out (not an adjustment with cracking) It can hurt some, but at the same time, it feels SO good. Think of it like a super deep, hard massage. If you ever have SI Joint pain or neck issues(though I really hope you never ever do!), you might change your mind. :) I've been in pain so bad it's made me cry (and I do not cry easily) and unable to sit, lay down, or stand without intense pain.. no relief... One adjustment with some ART therapy and I'm a whole new woman! :)

To each their own though! No judgement here.. Just stating why it has been incredibly beneficial for me and I know it's beneficial for others out there too. I like being able to stand/sit/lay down without being in excruciating pain :)

  • I have gone a few times.  I had a pinched nerve or something and it was killing me. I went to one, he cracked my back and such, I felt better in a couple days.  Pain didn't come back for like 6 months, did it again, same chiropractor.   Havent had a problem since. I was totally freaked out at first to have someone crack my neck the way they do, but it felt awesome!!!!  But not something I would like to do regularly.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicimageimage

  • I am the lucky lady who has a chiro in the family. I get cracked about once a month. He can look at me and tell when I am hurting. There are articles out there that suggest that cracking certain areas can help with IF issues. Hope you like it!

  • A girl I work with swears by her chiro, but I just can't bring myself to do it. There's definitely some prof. bias on my part (even though I'm not in the medical field), and I have never cracked my joints purposefully. Just the thought of it gives me the creeps. Ugh!

THIS!!!! The whole thing freaks me out. Plus, I don't need it. I don't feel like starting something that you have to continue doing. Plus, that is expensive!!! My insurance doesn't cover that because it's elective.
