Re: When do you put up your Christmas Tree?

  • I put ours up on Black Friday, much to DH's annoyance, but I figure if I'm going to go through the fuss of all that decorating it's all going up long enough to make it worth while!

The tree comes down on New Year's Day, but to DH's enjoyment - it's his job.

  • If I had my choice it would go up on Thanksgiving after we got home from dinner at MILs, but H is evil and won't let me put it up till Dec 1st.

  • DH waits until 2 weeks before Christmas, and tries to be exact about it.  It comes down two weeks afterwards.

  • Ours goes up the day before Thanksgiving
  • We put the tree up early December after we go chop it down, usually the first weekend in Dec.  It comes down on New Years or NYE if it is dying, the weekend after if it is doing ok.

  • Ours usually goes around my birthday, which is November 17th. I figure if I am going through the work, I might as well enjoy it. I love Christmas so we always watch White Christmas and have cookies and put up the tree. R tolerates it because he knows how happy it makes me :)

  • Since we get a free tree from the family tree farm, we get ours a few days before Thanksgiving because there is no free time during the tree season. Freshly cut trees can last months if they are cut properly and are watered enough.

  • @whippet8 so just water? ours always dries out quickly. we do also have our heater on a lot so that could be the culprit as well...

  • I love the idea of having the tree up at Thanksgiving to start the holidays off right! I don't get sick of it so it doesn't bother me to have it up that long. It usually goes down the first weekend after Christmas. Maybe after NYE depending on our schedules but tomato tomahto. ;)

@vitan Is it fresh cut? If it is already cut, you need to cut off a new piece (at least an inch, depending on how long ago it was cut. precuts from a home depot are usually cut in late october) and water, water, water. You can't let the water dry up or it's done and won't suck up water again unless you take it out and cut it again. The sap creates a barrier and seals it up. If it is really cold outside, don't take it directly into a warm/hot house. Transition it in by putting it in the basement or garage or something.

  • We don't have a set time. Two years ago I decided to decorate beginning of Dwcwmber during a Thursday night Steelers game. I decided to drink to be festive. My tree fell two or three times and it was pretty obvious a drunk person did it.

Last year I did it the weekend before Christmas. Not sure what this year will hold.

  • We go get ours and put it up on Black Friday when I get home from shopping, but we don't decorate it till the next day.

  • I put early December, but I always have grand plans to put it up on Black Friday.

Although, this may be a FFC... last year, we got a tree but never got around to decorating it. So yes, I had a plain ol' pine tree in my living room for a month and a half.

This year, we are probably not going to get a big tree, just because I'm due on January 1 and we don't want to deal with taking it down right after she's born (or if I'm 80 years pregnant still). I have a little 3 foot tree we will probably put up, but that's about it.
