Job search

Any suggestions for searching for a job? I check out career builder and other websites, but have no luck. I don't even know if I want to stay in the classroom setting. I have my director certification from the state, but I'm not ready for that yet. :(

Do you want to stay in education?

Maybe Director somewhere small? (don't underestimate yourself)

Otherwise, I'd say check out some staffing firms. Randstad, Synerfac, ect.

ETA: The staffing firms each specialize in something different, so I'd call and see what types of positions they staff for. They work for the companies, not you, but when they are pulling to fill positions they will review you and see if you would fit for the position. They also  check on Monster, Career Builder, ect. so make sure to post your resume there.

  • I have no suggestions. I just wanted to say good luck!!

  • I wish I had some kind of advice. Good luck with the search. Anyone would be lucky to have you and it's a shame your current job doesn't see the blessing you are to them.
  • Good luck!  Sorry I can't help.

I second Steph's mention of staffing firms.  I got my current job through a staffing firm and dealing with them was so easy and I had a position within a week of my first meeting.  Some companies (my current company included) don't even post jobs publicly they just go straight to the staffing agencies so there may be a whole chunk of jobs you would have no way of even being exposed to if you don't deal with them.

My other piece of advice is to make a list of companies you would be interested in working for and set aside an hour or so of each week to check their websites.  Some companies don't post open positions to sites like career builder.  When I was looking for a job my list included the state and local governments, all the local hospitals etc.  For you I'm thinking like the YMCA (my YMCA is always hiring in their preschool) etc.  Along these lines if you have a place you are interested in working in mind it wouldn't hurt to email, fax or drop off your resume even if they are not currently seeking to fill a position.  Just cater your cover letter accordingly.

Also don't overlook the newspaper.  Down here the Cape Gazette always has great jobs posted in their classifieds that are not posted on sites like monster.  Not every newspaper down here has a good classified section so check all the newspapers in your area out I'm betting at least one has jobs working looking into.

  • Thanks everyone for the responses. I'll do some research this weekend! :)
