WIJFR: Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

A parent of one of my tenth grade students suggested that I read Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. I found it fascinating.  The author suggests that as a society we ignore or try to change introverts to our detriment.  Schools focus on group work and discussion; businesses have open floor plans.  But introverts have been responsible for so much creativity and innovation.

As an introvert most of the time, I could really identify with a lot of the book.  I love teaching, and can be gregarious in the classroom, but I am desperate for quiet, recharging time after work.

I'd recommend the book to any teachers or parents.

  • A friend of mine who is a very strong extravert read this recently.  She's fascinated by introverts generally, and also said that this book was really good.  It's on my radar to read one of these days.
  • One of my bookclub ladies recommended that I read this one. Glad you liked it.

  • I thought it was really interesting too.  I listened to it on audio and it was captivating enough that it held my attention through the whole thing, which isn't always the case with non-fiction on audio.

  • I really want to read this book. I'll have to bump it up the list.  I'm right in the middle on every personality test I've taken between introvert and extrovert.

I was thinking about grabbing this on audio as long as the narrator doesn't have a monotone voice.

Same here. I read this last year and found it fascinating. I'm trying to get my H to read it at some point, but even with just me reading it and talking to him about it, he seems to understand why it is sometimes so difficult for me.

  • I loved this book.  At first it felt like a "well, duh" type read, but the more I read the more I really gained a greater understanding of myself and many of my friends.

  • I'm almost finished this and it's such a great read. I always knew I was an introvert I just never knew there was a name for it. It's so helpful for looking at the people around you, your relationships at work and home and how people generally view the world. I can't wait to finish it.
