50th Birthday

We have a 50th Birthday coming up for someone that is special and dear to us.  We are stumped on what to buy her!  The woman is single, no children, doesn't go out a whole lot, is a Nurse and buys what she wants/needs.  She is not into technological stuff.  She doesn't like to be pampered.  She isn't into shopping for clothes.

A gift card for a restaurant is not ideal because I am not sure who she would take, and we have done gc's and outings (shows, day trip etc) with her for previous b-days which turned into nightmares in some respects.  I suggested jewelry, but she doesn't wear much due to her job.  I also suggested a good watch with something inscribed on the back.

Any ideas????????  I need help coming up with something.  We don't have a set price, so I will take any and all ideas at this point.  TIA

Re: 50th Birthday

  • Does she get her hair or nails done at a certain salon? Maybe a department store gift card so she can get what she wants?

  • She bites her nails and gets her hair done at Hair Cuttery.  She won't do massages.  Not a  pampering kind of girl!

Dept store gift card may be the way to go.

Soooo annoying to come up with something for her.  I can usually come up with ideas, but most women like something "splurge" related....except her.  Thanks, Babe2331

  • I like to get pottery serving dishes; they're functional art. Earth and State in Media has really nice handmade gifts. It's getting cold, what about cashmere gloves or something else that would be a splurge?

  • How about something for her home? I love candles from Anthro. At $30+ they are definitely a splurge, but they make a good gift. They smell amazing, and come in adorable containers.

Is there a meaningful picture you could have blown up on canvas for her?

I know you said outings are out of the picture, but what about just dinner somewhere nice?

Does she have any interests or hobbies? For example, if she's into cooking, maybe purchase cooking lessons or a giftcard to get cooking lessons.  Or photography classes, or some sort of gardening class??

  • Charitable donation in their honor to their favorite cause.  It's what I usually do for an occasion like this (especially when the person has their needs covered and doesn't really want anything special).
  • Love the charity idea and the class idea!  Maybe put it with a piece of pottery or fancy candle. Nice!  Thank you!!!!!!!!

My husband keeps trying to get me to do something with her as the gift.  I keep saying "your relative, you do it with her!"  She is one of those people who is nice, but I can only deal with her for so long and on certain days.

    Thank you, ladies!
