Gah!

My MIL friended my on Facebook this morning! I thought I was never going to have to worry about that, but alas, there she is... how long can I reasonably wait until I accept the request? :P

Re: Gah!

  • Eek!!  My MIL and FIL are my friends on Facebook.  But, I don't mind, because DH's whole family is super cool.  Good luck with that one!  Claim you saw it on your phone, and forgot about it.  If I ignore the alert on my phone, who knows how long it is before I remember I have a pending friend confirmation!

  • You can always put her on limited access if you want and then pray she deletes you like mine did.

  • I was going to suggest limiting what she can see too! lol My ILs have a facebook just for creeping on the family. They have nothing on their profile but they created one because they were tired of being last to know things because it was put on FB first. Good thing I don't post too much on my FB I guess..
  • I don't post anything that I wouldn't tell my parents or the in laws about. A decent portion of my Facebook is family. I don't mind because it's a good way to keep in tough without calling. But I do get some comments on things from my mom and FIL that make me sigh/ roll my eyes.

I guess ignore the request as long as you think you can without hurting her feelings. Then put her on limited acess.
  • I ignore a lot of request from certain people. If they ask, I just say 'oh yeah I forgot!'  But yes, eventually you'll probably have to accept.  Are you friends with any of your H's other family.  Regarding the limited acess - if someone says you post something and she didn't she may realize you you have her somewhat blocked.  That happened to a friend of mine.

This is what I'm worried about. DH and I are full of eye rolls when we visit with her. I can't imagine how she is over Facebook.

I get where you are coming from. My mom induces quite a bit of eyerolls and exasperation both in real life and on FB. When she first requested me on FB, I prolonged it as long as I could and dreaded it when I accepted.

However, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Yes, she is still ridiculous on there most of the time, but people who are mutual friends know that about her, and ones that are not can tell she's just "one of those people". FB being what it is now, open to everyone and almost everyone getting on there, we all have one or two friends that are like that.

Worse comes to worse, you can, as mentioned, put her on limited access or limit what you see she's posting.

hahaha and i thought my H's family were the only ones who did this. They created a facebook for this very reason and only use it for creeping! I usually know when they have their once a week creep sessions because i get 10 notifications of them liking every picture/status i have for the week.
