  • I think we're getting it this weekend.  With my parents being sick, and TTC I want H and I to get it.

  • I haven't yet, but I usually do. Working in a school, it's generally a good idea.

  • Nope.  Never had one.  I always say I would rather get the flue than get the flu shot.  I hate shots, and even though getting the flu would be TERRIBLE, it would be a nice break from school and work, haha!
Also, H is really suspicious of the flu shot (he's suspicious of anything the government hands out for free, he says. haha).  I've heard there are so many different things in the flu shot that they aren't able to identify all the components.  I've heard it even has mercury in it?!  Not sure how true this is, but.

  • I got one my freshman year of college with no side effects (I think it was a fairly new thing then?  2004?).  But, my brother just got one (he works in health care) and he got, yes, the FLU from it.  I think I'll take my chances!

If I worked around kids or in a hospital I might change my mind, though.

  • I have never gotten one in the past but probably will this year. I'm sure my midwives will recommend it at my appointment tomorrow. If they think it is a good idea, I will get it.

  • Nope, I don't get flu shots.  I've never gotten the flu and don't get sick easily.  I also hate shots, so that has more to do with it than anything else.

  • I've read a lot of conflicting information about getting a flu shot while on Prednisone.  I can't make up my mind which side I believe..

  • Yes every year. I got it when I was pregnant and then a couple weeks ago bc I work in the school with germy kids and bc of DD, I can't afford to get sick!

  • I've gone back and forth. Usually in years I got the shot I got pretty sick later. My old job used to offer them for free, so this post is making me realize I will have to go out on my own to get it! But I probably will since we are TTC. Thanks for the reminder!!

  • Nope. Never have as an adult. I might consider it if I get KU, but otherwise, nope.

  • My patients are immunocompromised preemies. I get it to protect them and myself as well.

You cannot get the flu from the flu shot. That is a BIG myth.
  • I don't usually get it.  I got it the year the swine flu came out because I was afraid of the swine flu.  I got it last year and this year because of my nephew and in February, my niece.  I work in a school and my kids come to school with all sort of illnesses.  I would feel so bad if I got one of the babies sick.  I see my nephew almost daily and when my niece comes, I'll probably go to my brother's daily to help out.

H doesn't get it.  He said if I get pregnant he'll get it.  MIL got the fly last year and freaked out when she found out H didn't get one.  She made me go out and buy him Vitamin C so he wouldn't get sick.  He laughed every day when he took the pill.

  • I work in healthcare so we have to get it . The employee health nurse came around with a cart during lunch one day and offered us door to door service, they make it hard to say no lol. Also I'm going to back up @mbuckley85... You can not get the flu from the flu shot, huge myth!

@danaocny and @mbuckley85, do either of you know if there is any danger in getting the flu vaccine when pregnant? I would imagine all strainds of the vaccine are the same. I'm in my 2ww and can get the shot through my H's work Friday but wasn't sure if there is anything to be aware of. Thanks!

  • @lwoehlk I am going to talk to my midwives today about getting the flu shot while pregnant. From what I've read, there is a risk if you are late in your third trimester and possibly very early in your first. I've also read that they give a variation of the flu shot with four strains for pregnant women and only three strains for most of the rest of to population. Maybe call your GYN and see what they think?

When are you planning on testing? So exciting to be in the 2ww!

Yea, I've been waiting for AF to come, that's why we are going soon, before the 2ww!

  • @mbuckley85 and @DanaOcNy thanks for clearing that up!  Obviously my knowledge of health care is extremely limited, lol.  I'm sure he got sick from one of his patients, it was just funny it happened like 3 days after his shot--we've been teasing him about it ;)

  • I'm getting it. Not only do I have to get it for school (if there's a flu outbreak and we don't have the shot, we can't go to clinical placement), but now that I'm pregnant I will for sure get it.

Thanks for the info!! I was going to test Friday morning anyway (13 dpo) because we are going to a concert that night and I'm having wine if I get a BFN, dang it! I guess if I get a pleasant surprise then I will buck up and pay for it after consulting with my dr! It's hard not to get my hopes up.....

  • I just got my flu shot at the OB today!

I'll also be getting the TDAP while pregnant. The NP said any time after 28 weeks will protect both me and the baby so I'll get it on the visit after next.
