Series Pet Peeve

It's really dumb, but I just have to say it.

I hate when I read a series and the titles of the books in the series are all very similar.  This makes it hard to tell people which book I'm reading.  For instance, I'm currently reading Kate Daniels #3.  No clue what it's called because all the books have "magic" in the title.  With BDB, I just refer to the brother.  Same thing happened with the Night Huntress series and the Fever series.

Re: Series Pet Peeve

  • I can NEVER remember the BDB book names.  I just refer to them by brother as well.  Same with the Fever series.  I have no idea which one is which.

  • I was always like that with the Sookie series. The "dead whatever" titles were always loosely related to the plot.

  • And I hate it when they don't have a number somewhere so I can easily tell the order. GRR.

This too.  I always have to google "______ series order."

  • Sookie books are the worst. I've checked out multiple books in the series multiple times because I didn't remember if I read that title or not.

  • Yea, the Kate Daniels series is a bitch.  Good thing the content makes up for it.  That annoys me about series too.  Just give them their own names.

  • Ditto Young_Love. Every time I buy a book at a used book sale and get home and add it to goodreads and it tells me it's part of a series I search all over the book trying to figure out how I was supposed to know.

  • I think it was the Kate Daniels series - I completely spoiled one of the books for myself because I had them in the wrong order.  The first few pages of the book I was reading completely ruined the book I had unintentionally skipped.

  • All of this! I have to look up the order in fictiondb then check goodreads to know if I read it or not. Annoying.

YES!  When it just says "A ____ Novel".  I need to know WHICH one, not just that it's part of a series.

I hate this. Why don't publishers label each book like "The third book in the ___ series"? I can't see any logical reason not to do that.

    I wrote this!
  • I have this problem with every single series that isn't clearly numbered.  I have to look up the Outlander series order every single time I want to start reading one.  Or if someone is talking about them, I have to look up which ones I've read and which ones I haven't gotten to yet.
  • I agree with everything you all have said!  I think they don't make what number book it is so that you buy book #3 without knowing it's order and then you HAVE to buy books 1 and 2.
