Dealing with fatigue

Any strategies or tips for dealing with first trimester fatigue? I go to bed at 8 PM every night anymore but still wake up tired (I get up at 5:15 AM). I know fatigue is par for the course in first tri but I'd be happy to hear any tips anyone has for coping!

Re: Dealing with fatigue

  • I have been dealing with this all first tri so far!  I have read that eating smaller meals throughout the day helps somewhat with this.

  • Eat and drink water all the time! Also, when I was dealing with 1st tri fatigue I was waking up at 730 and getting home around 5. I would go to sleep as soon as I got home and DH would come home, make dinner, wake me up to eat. I would fall asleep on the couch and he would wake me up to go to bed when he was ready.

I just slept whenever I could...

  • I've been trying to keep up with my exercise. I seem to have more energy when I get a good workout in, but it is difficult to motivate myself to workout.

last night after work I crawled in bed and slept from 6:30-8:45 and was back asleep at 11:15. and of course I had a terrible time waking up this mornig

  • I was tired all the time the first time around. No real solutions for me except sleep. I'd even take naps at work in my car. 1st tri puts you in survivor mode so do what you can to survive!

  • I don't think there's much you can do.  I used to fall asleep on the train and then lay down again when I got home from work until about 8 pm when I got up and ate and then went back to bed at 10 again.

The good thing is that it will definitely pass when you get to 2nd trimester - it's magical!

  • The only thing I've found to help is to actually lay down and rest.

  • I always forced myself to do things when I got home from work.  I felt exhausted, but I'd force myself to do a load of laundry, or the dishes, etc.  Getting up and moving around gave me a bit more energy and I didn't feel like such a slacker because I was actually getting things done.

  • Oh boy. I think it's so normal and not too much you can do other than avoid foods that can give you that afternoon logey feeling (for me heavy carbs etc). Also I find avoiding caffeine etc is helpful because they can spike your energy and then crash it!

This was me exactly. DH was a nervous wreck over me in first tri because I would sleep right through dinner and if I did get up, I ate like a bird to humor him and went right back to sleep.

I had intense fatigue and nothing really helped. It just eased up eventually. Just enjoy the naps you're able to take now!
