Can we talk Christmas?

I mean, some stores have had their decorations out since August, so I would like to go ahead and ask my question now.

We have a traditional colonial style entry, where the front door opens right to a staircase upstairs. The staircase has a double banister for the first few steps and then the walls start on both sides. I don't have pictures, but this is the closest to what I'm talking about (except our walls are even, if that makes sense).

In the past, we've wrapped faux evergreen garland around the banister top and hung our stockings on the living room side. I've never really liked the look of it. Any suggestions?

My mom wraps the faux garland and puts white Christmas lights in it along hers. It always looks so charming because the lights give off the perfect 'warm' glow.

  • I have a tiny banister, and I wrap faux garland around it, and entwined with it are white lights and berry garland. It is really pretty and adds a colorful touch to it, unless you don't like the look at all. Then I guess you could always tie bows to each of the rods.

  • I was also going to suggest white Christmas lights with the faux garland, maybe add some bows?
  • Instead of garland, I use pretty, wide ribbon with wire (red with gold glitter) and wrap it around the bannister. Then every 5-6 openings, I hang one of those huge ornaments (gold) from the ribbon.

  • Maybe wrap silver tinsel like you do garland with some lights and then put those big red bows on the sides?

I like the garland look, but if you want something a little different then that is a suggestion. The garland look could also look cute with those old lanterns on the steps or just at the bottom.
