Anybody know anyone...

Hi ladies!! I've been posting randomly for a little while now.  I'm still new to TTC in general and have been doing some research.  So my question is if anyone knows/has asthma during pregnancy?   I've been reading and there is some conflicting information out there.  Just a little background... I'm healthy and active with asthma due to inflammation and seasonal allergies.  I know most of cases are unique.  I also know you all know sooo much and I'd love to get your take. Thank you!! :) hope you're all enjoying your weekend.

Re: Anybody know anyone...

  • I have asthma due to seasonal allergies. I am only about 5 weeks along right now. I was on Singulair for my symptoms and although my OB said I could take it he encouraged me to try to go without it. He said that there are studies that show that babies exposed to asthma medication during pregnancy are more likely to have asthma themselves.

I don't know what kind of information you are looking for but hope that helps! My allergies have settled down now that it is getting colder out so I haven't had a problem so far.

  • I have asthma as well. My doctor changed my daily medication to one that is safer in pregnancy ( from
Flovent to pulmicort). My asthma is generally well controlled and I'm on a pretty low dose. I still use ventolin as needed. My understanding is It's more dangerous to have difficulty breathing than to take your meds, baby needs enough oxygen as well.
Talk to your doctor about whether your meds are safe.
From what I've read 1/3 people get better, 1/3 stay the same and 1/3 get worse symptoms during pregnancy.

  • Thanks @uptowngirl2009 and @ecinereb! I was just curious. I didn't think about the other boards. When the time comes,  maybe I'll ask over there.  My dr. Isn't worrying unless there's reason to. So far I've weaned myself off all meds except zyrtec and the occasional puff of my inhaler, but that was a personal choice.  Congrats on your BFPs and GL :).
