Re: Touching pregnant bellies illegal in PA

  • I saw this! I am kind of glad something like this has happened. I have never been pregnant but I have seen so many uncomfortable women dealing with this.
It is common sense to me but apparently not to others. Last week in walmart a pregnant woman was being chatted up by an older woman who had been resting her hands on her stomach for quite awhile. The woman would move her stomach and the other woman would move her hands to follow. In a lull in their conversation I asked her how far along she was and when she turned around to talk to me she looked so unbelievably relieved and actually thanked me once the older woman had finished checking out.

  • I don't have any children either, but hear it all the time how people just lover to touch pregnant bellies.

Its pretty sad there needs to be a law for this, instead of people using their common sense.   I also wonder how they are planning to enforce this?

  • Not sure how they will enforce this, might be the woman can call the police and have the person fined for illegal touching.

MW was lucky, a lot of people didn't touch her belly when pregnant but we have seen others not so lucky.
  • I didn't get any belly touches.  I got rude stupid comments instead "your having twins"  "aren't you kinda big for 15 weeks?"  you are totally going to have that baby 3 months early, your doctor is wrong"

  • Are people really that rude!?  Holly cow.  Telling people they are big/huge is not ok, pregnant or not.

Yes, they are that rude.  Whenever you get pregnant be prepared.  I would always end up crying once I got back in my car because I felt huge enough as it is.  Pregnancy was a complete disaster for my self esteem.  A couple people were absolute sure my doctor was wrong.  The lady that told me I was having twins, said that the 2nd baby must be hiding behind the first for the doctor to not see.  The second lady told me the doctor must be wrong about my due date.  GOD, there I was just trying to wobble around due to my horrible sciatica.

  • My MIL delivered 3 babies over 10 pounds.  I was nearly 10 lbs, and when my mother tried to get on an airplane at 6 months the airline nearly didn't let her on because she was so big - they thought she might go into labor on the plane.

The likelihood of me being - ahem - larger than average during pregnancy is about 99% I've decided.

I delivered an 8 lb baby at 41 weeks and I gained 76lbs :( half of which was water weight.  It's truly crazy what it does to your body, but it's so worth it.  I can say that now 2.5 years after the fact ;)
