WBN: Book choices

I don't know if this has been discussed, but I just got my application to World Book Night and I'm not overly thrilled about any of the titles!  I mean, I'm not completely up to date on a lot of books, but I hadn't heard of several of them.  Did anyone else notice this?

Re: WBN: Book choices

  • I actually liked quite a few of them!  Kitchen Confidential and Where'd You Go, Bernadette? are two books I read this year that I liked.  I was really hoping to see Tell the Wolves I'm Home though.

  • Those are two that I'd actually heard of.  I read Kitchen Confidential and liked it.  That one was one of my picks.

  • I wasn't thrilled and was unrealistically bummed that none of the books I voted for were chosen.  I do love Perks of Being a Wallflower and I recently read Where'd You Go, Bernadette, so I picked those and Code Name Verity.  I plan to read it eventually.

  • I give books to my students, so I was happy with the MG/YA choices.

  • I only knew a couple of them, and plan to try and read another one or two before I submit my application.

I'm definitely planning to pick the Botany of Desire, and maybe Kitchen Confidential, but I can't decide what else.
  • Yeah, I wasn't overly thrilled with the selection either.  There were a good number of books I'd never heard of/read.

  • Jacki--which ones were your favorites?  I would like to read some of them, since I'd never heard of them.  I'm wondering if I'm missing out.

  • I absolutely love Where'd You Go, Bernadette, The Zoo Keeper's Wife, and The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet- those are the 3 I signed up for.

I love that there are a handful of books that are more "guy" books, whereas the last couple of years I feel like there have been less: Catch 22 is excellent, and DH loves that and  Young Men & Fire. He signed up for these two and I don't remember what else.

The YA selections are also so good: Hoot and Perks are kind of modern classics that would be so fun to pass out. Same with Mrs Peregrine's, and Terabithia and Code Name Verity.

I love that there are solid non-fiction selections: Kitchen Confidential and The Botany of Desire.

I have also read Wild and The Weird Sisters, but they weren't my faves although I can see how other people would love them.

So, there ya go. There are a few that I have been meaning to read but haven't. Mostly I love how they have this really solid, varied list that appeals to pretty much everyone.

  • Very cool...I'll put a couple of those on my list.  Thank you, Jacki!!
