Sleep/Hip Issues

I generally sleep on my side at night (sometimes half on my side, half on my stomach).  The past couple of nights, I keep waking up because the hip of whatever side I am laying on really hurts!  So bad that I have to turn over.  Then that side will hurt and I just keep waking up hurting!  Any suggestions on how to get rid of this problem?

Re: Sleep/Hip Issues

  • That happened to me and a memory foam mattress topper helped immensely.

  • Next time for labor I want to bring a foam kneeling pad to put under my hips in the hospital.

  • I had that. Woke every hour or so. It went away right after I had the baby :-)

  • I had that and still have it :(

However, I broke my pelvis in an accident and I think that's mostly the reason why but it had never hurt before getting pregnant.

It's painful and annoying. I hope you find some comfort soon, I'll be taking some of the advice too. Lol.
  • When I had that, I propped myself on a pillow and slept on my back. If you feel really uncomfortable doing that, then maybe place a pillow between your legs. Sometimes just doing that really helped my feel comfortable again.

ditto this. fortunately, you're still early so you coooould sleep on your back. When I got bigger and I envision I'll be doing this soon, I just slept propped up. it sucks but the only thing that helped was birth. ;)

  • I had to go for a NST during pregnancy and during the test I was reclining back but far from flat so I thought I was fine. They saw decels though so from then on I made sure to stay on my side!

  • Try a Snoogle or placing a pillow between your things when sleeping on your side.  Unfortunately, it only gets worse but I am sure you will have some good nights in between too!

  • I feel the same way, and the pain feels like it's in my ribs too. I wish I had some advice, but this is just going to suck for a little while, lol

  • Wish I could help also but I'm experiencing the same thing. I have a pillow between my thighs and I finally wedged one behind me because I kept rolling to my back when I was sleeping apparently to get comfortable but then would wake up because my heart would start pounding rapidly for whatever reason. It's going to be a long rest of this pregnancy I'm afraid for us!

    Lesson learned!!

  • Side sleeper here too! Try sleeping with a pillow between your legs. This is the only way I can sleep comfortably and worked better then a "real" pregnancy pillow with DD. It keeps your hips at a more comfortable angle (IMO). I have an extra king pillow and just basically spoon it with it between my legs. Later when I'm bigger I'll put a second one behind me also to keep me from rolling onto my back. I remember when I got really big I would wake up every time I rolled onto my back because I couldn't breathe. The pillow kept this from happening!! DH called it my pregnancy pillow fort :)

Disclaimer: I never had the hip pain just discomfort so this might not work for you but it's an easy thing to try!!
