We are hosting this year, and I am starting to think about what we will serve and details.  Plus, this board is super quiet!

What are your Thanksgiving plans?

Big group or small group?

What do you normally have on your table?

Any good recipes to share?

Anything else?

Re: Turkey Time

  • We have dinner with my mom, my two sisters, one brother in law and niece and nephew. Very small crowd. Last year it was at my house but this year we're going to my moms. The Dudes brother lives down the street from us and we'll stop at his house on the way home for dessert and to just visit (thats the tentative plan at least based on if his mom will be there). We keep it simple with all the standards, nothing really out of the ordinary. I have no unique recipes as I usually just do a simple dessert.

We also do Tgiving with our friends that weekend and everyone brings one piece of the meal, but again..all the standards. We started that tradition having it at my house but in the 5 years we've been doing it 8 kids have been born so soon we'll have to rent out a hall! ha.

  • What are your Thanksgiving plans?  We go to DH's aunt and uncle's place.  They are our closest relatives, geographically.  So it's kind of great.

Big group or small group? I'd say big group.  Since most of DHs cousin's started getting married/seriously dating and having kids the last few years, it's increased. I'd guess about 20 or so.

What do you normally have on your table? The menu is the only thing that's a little lacking to me.  They typically have turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and stuffing.  That's pretty much it.  I tried to make a corn casserole one year that didn't go over well.  I may offer to bring yams this year.

Any good recipes to share? Champagne Basted Turkey.  Holy smokes is that good.  Plus drinking champagne and cooking are two of my favorite hobbies.  Paula Deen's Corn Casserole is also so very good.

Anything else? Since we don't host, I always do a Thanksgiving "redo" that Saturday with all of the sides *we* like and we feast on the leftovers for days.  There's nothing I love more than a cold turkey sandwich on any kind of bread with mayo, salt and pepper.  HEAVEN

  • What are your Thanksgiving plans? We will be driving up to NY the Monday before in hopes of beating some of the holiday traffic (this will be our first big trip with Henry). On Thanksgiving we always drive up to CT to celebrate

Big group or small group? Big-usually around 30 people.

What do you normally have on your table? What don't we have. Sweet potato casserole is my favorite though!

Any good recipes to share? I don't think I have ever cooked for Thanksgiving...

Anything else? I bought DH a turkey fryer for Christmas 2 years ago (it is still in the box...) Hoping to have a T-day with friends at some point.

  • What are your Thanksgiving plans? We will go visit my family the weekend before and have our Thanksgiving and then go to the IL's on thanksgiving.

Big group or small group? both are medium/large

What do you normally have on your table? turkey, corn casserole, sweet potatoes, pasta at IL's, cranberry sauce... we used to have endive with bacon dressing but my grandmother doesn't "feel like" making it any more!!!

Any good recipes to share? I've made this for Easter but it would work for T-giving too and it's yummy

    Anything else? I got nothing.

  • What are your Thanksgiving plans? I'll be cooking dinner at my moms

Big group or small group? small, about 10

What do you normally have on your table? Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, Brussel sprouts, cole slaw, candied yams for my dad

Any good recipes to share? I sauté my Brussel sprouts with bacon

    Anything else?

  • What are your Thanksgiving plans?  J's parents house, which is local.

Big group or small group? There's between 15-20 people, so I'd say medium.

What do you normally have on your table? Standard T-Day fare, nothing crazy.

Any good recipes to share? I hate canned cranberry crap, but this homemade version is awesome (and super easy).

Anything else? I love the idea of a second Thanksgiving with your friends! Hopefully my friends are down.

I tried making homemade cranberry sauce one year and it was a total fail.
  • @Nov2007 this recipe is easy peasy, and everyone loves it. Just cook it low and slow until the cranberries burst.  I make it that morning, and it's thickens as it cools.
