Halloween Post!

So, what costumes do we have on tap this year?  Any fun Halloween plans, parties, etc?  What are you passing out for Trick or Treat?

We are doing a Batman theme this year.  Mason is Batman, Garrett is Robin (Mason keeps calling him his "sidekick", ha!), DH is the Joker, and I am Catwoman.

We have our neighborhood Halloween party Saturday, and my parent's neighborhood has a Halloween party that we'll be going to on Sunday.  Next Saturday my friend is having her annual Halloween party, and the theme is Heroes & Villains, so our costumes will fit with that!

On Halloween, the boy's have their parade at school, and then we'll TorT that night.  My parents will be coming over for pizza and cake (it's my mom's b-day), and will pass out candy while we take the boys out.  I have no idea what we'll be passing out - probably whatever DH picks up at Costco!

Re: Halloween Post!

  • we grabbed a bag of ToT candy from costco on our last visit, and have a lot less going on than you do Meghan!  EJ has a birthday party on Saturday where she is encouraged to wear her costume.  Then ToT is Thursday (I believe halloween parade at school is that day too). There has been talk of combining our treat passing efforts this year rather than making the kids walk through the cul-de-sac so we (the moms) can sit together and drink. Er, I mean keep each other company. we can just set up one table and have a little fun while the dads circle the neighborhood with the spawn.
  • We still need to carve our pumpkins - maybe Friday night? We did one when we went camping at the beginning of the month, but it didn't survive the run of warmer weather.

Heather's Merida costume is done - woot! Todd chose Captain America. DH and I don't have costumes. We plan to go to Zoo Boo on Sunday. The kids will dress up at school Thursday plus ToT that evening. I guess if we are going to ToT with neighbors I should figure that out soon. :-)

  • Dd is Ariel. This past weekend was our town Halloween party which was terrible. It's usually at the high school and great. They switched locations this year and it was so poorly planned! It was at night and was cold and raining and we had to wait in lines outside. Anyways, beforehand dd had a pre-party party at her friends house which was fun.

I'd like to do zoo boo but our weather looks bad this weekend. We got our pumpkins but need to carve them.

Thursday ToTing. Sounds like other kids have Halloween stuff at school but apparently not at dd's! We had something the other day that said no costumes at school :-(

  • We have two pumpkin carving parties and zoo boo this weekend, along with my birthday and a birthday party so it's busy for parties/dressing up for us.

The parties we're going to are costume parties. The boys are going to be a knight and a horse for one, and spiderman/a lion for the other.

Steve and I are dressing as Jesse Pinkman and a chalk outline. I hope people get it and aren't totally confused as to what I am.

I always wait for coupons and buy full size bars at costco, so this year I have mms, snickers, milky way, skittles and starburst. With Steve out of town next week, and me having to take the boys, my neighbor will give out our candy until we get home.

  • Brody is going to be The Hulk and Noah is a mummy.  They each have parades at school on Halloween and then will TorT that night.  I'm a little bummed that my neighbor friend moved away, we got together and gave out candy while the Dad's took the kids out.   So I'll be lonely giving out candy at home while Walt takes the boys out.  I don't know what we'll give out, whatever we can find at Sam's I guess.

DH and I are going away this weekend for our anniversary and the place we're staying is having a Halloween party on Saturday.  I found a cute witch's hat in the Target $1 spot for $3, so pairing that with a black dress and black boots, voila! I'll be a witch.  (I also got purple and black striped tights to wear, too).  DH dug out an old doctor's coat and is going to be a zombie doctor or something.  (He resembled Carter from ER back in the day, so one year he was Dr. Carter for Halloween, and he still has the lab coat from that).

Gavin wants to be a ninja; Conall will be Spiderman; Sean will be Batman. No dress-up parties for us, and I have no idea if there will be anything at school / daycare. School, probably not as it is Catholic school! Daycare - no idea. (But I have issues in general with them and lack of communication, as they took over a former daycare business two weeks after we started and I still have never received a handbook.)  :-S

I just hit up CVS this morning for candy and got 12 bags of candy for $20 after coupons and rewards bucks. I've been told we get a lot of ToTers, but I really have no idea what to expect. I have to figure out how many pieces these bags work out to, but I also have a huge bag of dum-dums as backup if needed!

  • Oh, yeah, candy. DH bought ours a couple of weeks ago. He bought a lot, but we usually get a lot of ToTers if it doesn't rain.

  • We're going to a Halloween party this weekend, I'm dressing as Padme from Star Wars Episode 3 (when she's pregnant), DH and my brother are dressing as the Blues Brothers. There's a costume competition, and I'm pretty sure they're going to win best couple's costume, ha ha. Next weekend we're going to see my IL's one last time before the baby comes (they live in NC), and we're driving down on Thursday, so that's our fun Halloween plan. They get a lot of ToT-ers in their neighborhood, and we don't really here, so that will be more interesting at least. We're going to the RenFest on Saturday, and we might wear costumes there too (yeah, we're total nerds!)

my kiddos are batman and robin too! when i was pregnant i asked my son what he wanted to get the baby as a present and what he wanted as a gift from the baby and he said those costumes.   it was funny being at the hospital and having our older son running around the hospital in his costume. they look really cute together!  and i'm not passing out candy! i'm going to walk the neighborhood with my family!  is that bad?...

  • Hayden is a pirate and Nolan is Wolverine. We went to 2 parties last weekend, a parade in my hometown on Wednesday, TOT in my parents neighborhood tomorrow night and then ours is on Thursday. They are definitely getting a lot of use out of their costumes this year!

  • We're invited to a bonfire tomorrow evening. I hope we can make it. G is welcome and it starts at 5. I'm not sure if it's a costume thing or not.

G will tolerate no costume, which really bums me out. I LOVE Halloween. He just tugs and whines about whatever we put on him. We went to zoo boo last week and he wore a skeleton hoodie and sweat pants. I bought him the most awesome robot costume and he pitches a fit every time I try to put it on him. I'm going to try again this week in the hopes that he gets used to it. He also will not tolerate anything on his head :/

Casey always does a big set in our driveway for Halloween. This year he's doing a haunted Louisiana bayou. Our good friends and neighbors are doing a Pumpkinhead set in their yard. It'll be really fun for the kids in our neighborhood. I'll probably take G to a few houses on our street then come back and help scare the ToTers.

We're picking up a giant bag of Costco candy tonight.

Mason hated his costume when he was around that age - he was a monkey and hated every second of wearing it.  Then I got him dressed in the costume in front of our full length mirror so that he could see himself, and made a big deal of him being a monkey.  He loved wearing his costume after that.  I was surprised that it actually worked because he hated wearing it so much, but maybe if you try letting him see you get him dressed he might be open to wearing it.  GL!
  • I agree with Meghan. Heather hated her costume at that age until we showed her a picture of herself in it. Then we could barely get it off that night. :-)

  • Thanks, ladies! We did try that on Sunday morning before zoo boo - but that was after the fussing and whining started. Maybe we'll do it all in front of the mirror this time! I hope he'll put up with it. It so unbelievably cute, I'd hate for it to go to waste!

I am off the hook on costume making this year- for the first time ever Adam picked some thing I could buy! he is Superman man of steel- with muscles- hehehe so funny!  Ian is supposed to be a Carter's monkey- Monkey's are kinda his "thing" I got it 50% off at the outlet over Labor day but 3-6 mo is the smallest they had. Dispite being 3 months today he has only been in 0-3mo clothes for about 6 weeks and they are still fitting with room- including footie PJ's!! I haven't tried I on so we will see how it goes.

I have no even decorated yet... I usually make cut out cookies that I treat to the closest neighbors, but I have yet to determine if that will be done by Thursday....We still need to do Pumpkins too. Monday probably for that...

We don't have any Halloween parties.

My parents live in the country and my sisters neighborhood doesn't do tick or treat so they are all coming down here. My parents will hand out candy while we take the kids out. I probably will do just our block with Ian then come home and let DH and DS go do their thing. Not sure how much my niece will do either. She is a lady bug.

We have kindermusik 4:30- 5:30 and trick or treat starts at 6.... she won't cancel because there is no time to make up she says...=/ still debating on what to do about that. who needs dinner when you can eat 10# of candy at 8:00 pm right??

Oh and I spent way too much money on candy- 3 bags from Target it is all "Good stuff"  Reese cups and pieces and kitKats mostly, just in case there are leftovers...;)

When Adam was 2 he wanted to be a robot. I made it for him. he fought me with trying it on for fitting and refused to wear it more than 2 sec.  When Trick or Treat night hit he couldn't get it on fast enough and wore it no problem!  Good Luck!

  • EJ decided she is modifying her costume after deciding the wig was not very comfortable.  So she will be Rapunzel after her hair is cut at the end since she already has the short brown hair thing going for her.  She cracks me up sometimes.
  • Logan is going to be a giraffe - hopefully. The plan was to trick or treat in my sister's neighborhood so the boys could go around together. As luck would have it they're both sick. :( I'm hoping everyone feels better by tomorrow!!
