WWYD - Deck

We got a deck in Sept through Lowes, and they subcontracted it out.  It was finished right before Labor Day.  Only, 2 railings were missing and they had to reorder it.  I got a call Sept 4th (I remember because my parents were back from NC) saying the parts were in to be picked up.  I asked them, "shouldn't the subcontractor pick it up and deliever it when they finish it".  They confirmed this, said they will call them right after we got off the phone.

3 weeks go by, no one has called nor has my deck been finished.  I called and they said they would called the subcontractor.  Nothing, after another week, I called... same thing, so I started calling every other day.  FINALLY Oct 9th, I went to lowes.  After back and forth I talked to the manager.  He said he will handle it. While we were there, I wanted to check out the Christmas trees since we need to get one this year.  Ran into the guy that helped us set everything up.  He's SO nice, we started talking to him.  Told him the issues.  We mentioned the subcontractor name and he goes - "oh we aren't using them anymore, but they need to finish what they started".  Ah the truth... and probably why they haven't responded.

1-2 days later, we got a phone message that they got in contact with subcontractor and he'll do it, but but it'll take 2 weeks.  Ok, fine.

We are now onto week 3, IT'S STILL NOT DONE.  I called lowes again, and they left subcontractor another message.

Seriously, what do I do now?!  Call the subcontractor up myself?  Or call Lowes coporate.  I'm tired of this crap!  I WANT MY DECK FINISHED!

  • I would call lowes corporate and then tweet about it. It sounds crazy but they read their tweets and respond to people. We went to ours with a friend a she tweeted about the exit doors not opening. He got a message back in about an hour wanting to know what store it was.

    Sounds like it's time to throw a B-fit somewhere.  I usually just call 8 times a day until they get sick of me.  It sucks, but sometimes, you have to be the person they take care of just so they don't have to deal with you anymore.

  • All I can say is that you are a much better person then I am!!! I would have lost my mind with these people weeks ago. I would definitely call corporate. If Lowes no longer works with that subcontractor and he is not retuning there calls they need to get someone else in there to finish the job.
  • I would have called the corporate office at the end of September. You've been MORE then patient enough with them. I'd also be asking for some sort of compensation for the lack of service.

  • Yea, tweeting didn't help, and I did get the FB Rave or Rant working....

    But I ended up I calling corporate when I got home, they are filing a complain with the store and sending it to the manager I already talked to.  I should receive a call within 24 hrs.  I suck at asking for compensation... I just want it finished!

  • I would definitely complain to corporate.  I don't think you should have to call the contractor since Lowe's hired him, even if they no longer with the company.  It's ridiculous that you had to wait this long.  You may feel like you stink at asking for compensation, but you've been patient enough.  You deserve money off this purchase and installation.  When the store manager calls, tell him you want a discount.
  • HA! So J was mowing while I was on the phone with corporate. I went up and took a bath afterwards. I heard him talking but couldn't figure out to who... he came up and said he talked to the big store manager at North East... and they will be calling me today too. I think J threatened calling Better Business Bureau.

    @sjs1013 - I know I need to say something today.  I mean this wasn't a cheap project... and this is just ridiculous.

    He got home around 1.  I asked him if we got a message from lowes, he said "no".  So I come home to a message left at 915 AM!  So of course the guy is gone for the day.  

    Oh and the contractor is saying they called, left a message to schedule a time.  

    1. WHY Schedule?!  
    2. LIARS!  I have every message left on the machine, even the one in August. they did not call!

    Even the manager from Lowes said in his VM he doubts they did.  

    So I called, and left a message for the contractor.  I'm really close to cussing them out.

  • This is ridiculous!!!! I definitely think you need to ask for some sort of compensation for the sh!t job they've done. I'm wondering if they'd had issues with this contractor before and that's why they no longer work with them? I'd be one pissed off person!
