broke my phone

I've had my phone for over 2 years and it's still in perfect working order, an incredible feat for me!  This evening, H and I were running errands and I had it in a stupid pocket.  I knew it would fall out and it did and now the lock button doesn't work.  I was holding out as long as possible for a new phone because I'm being cheap.  I'm not sure I can live without a functioning lock button.  I did deal with a phone with a completely smashed screen for like 6 months until the phone completely stopped working.  Then I switched an old, barely functional phone for 2 months until I was up for upgrade.

I don't think I can shut off my phone either, since it's an iPhone and you hold down the lock button to shut it off.  Deal with the broken lock button or get a new phone?  H said I can do whatever I want.  I hate making decisions.

Also, please don't tell me to switch to a Droid.  I had a Droid before my iPhone and it was the worst phone I have ever owned.  I would never buy another again.

Re: broke my phone

  • I typically keep my phone in my pocket, so a non-functioning lock button would not be an option for me personally. If you aren't ready to hand over the money for a new one yet, take it to an apple store, or the mac authority or something and see if they can fix it for relatively cheap. It might be a "cheap" enough fix that if it's in great condition otherwise, it's worth it.

I understand you not wanting to be persuaded, I'm on the opposite side of you though. :) I'm a droid girl through and through, but I'm the only one in my family. If someone asks about the difference, I give my opinion, but I'm not rude about it. I think the iPhone is just fine and everyone has their reasons for liking each, and that's okay!

  • I think I would be willing to switch to Droid if the phone I had in the past wasn't so terrible. It used to hang up on people all the time. It would send out strange messages to people that I never texted. It was slow moving. I brought it back to Verizon multiple times and they always told me that there was nothing wron with the phone. It was definitely a lemon.

I figured out how to lock the screen without the lock button. It'll keep the phone useful for another few months. I can live with the fix Google gave me :)
  • Woohoo!! and that sounds like the exception to the Droids. :) I've never had issues like that with any of mine, but I do think they've improved with time. Like I said, I don't think there's anything wrong with iPhones, but for me personally, there are things I like to do with my droid that I can't do with an iPhone, but for every person like me, there's someone who has the opposite thinking and that's totally normal. I'm not one of those OMG YOU HAVE TO GET ONE OMGZZZZZZZ. haha

UGH just so happens this week my friend has been complaining about the galaxy S4.  She went from an iphone to it and it's what H, all my work husbands and I have.  I was trying to help her while she had it, but kept saying if you hate it so much you have 14 days to switch.  Now she keeps trying to sell me on the iphone.  OMG I WANNA THROAT PUNCH HER!  You switched, you're happy, just drop it.  She even said "yea well, the galaxies are for geeks anyways, and iphones are more user friendly"

    I prefer nerd, THANK YOU!

It's like fighting over what's better chocolate or vanilla? They are both good!  It's a phone, you use it... end of story.

ETA - sorry got on a rant... I'm glad you got a fix!  Are you up for a renewal for a new phone?

  • I agree with you @mana8503 but I know talking about a phone problem usually turns into a get the opposite of what you have debate. My dad got an iPhone a few years ago and has no idea how to use it. He's always calling me up for problems and I feel the same way. I'd tell the coworker to leave me alone if I were you.

I am up for renewal. I got this phone at the beginning of October, 2011. Since it's fine, I want to keep it for as long as possible. We'll see, H told me to just get a new phone.
  • Our plan is sort of messed up because I added H to my plan in the middle of the cycle. I was going to try to wait for him to be up for upgrade to straighten out the plan too.

Sorry if I have no formatting, I'm on mobile.
  • @sjs1013 - Well she had an iphone and changed, and kept comparing.  When she wouldn't listen to my suggestions, I just gave up and told her to switch if she was so unhappy.  A lot of it wasn't the phone. I just change the subject when she talks about it, but whenever she talks about an app or something she still tried to sell me on the iphone.

sometimes I wish I can block people on my work messager.

  • @mana8503, just pretend you don't get any phone related messages, only work related :)
