GTKY: Holiday Travel

I know lots of you ladies travel during the holidays so when you are traveling how is it done? Car, Plane, other mode, etc. Also how far are you traveling?

Re: GTKY: Holiday Travel

  • I try to drive if I can get away with it.  I'm not a fan of flying, but will do it if necessary.  I'm not going anywhere this year, we're having Thanksgiving and Christmas at our house, people are coming to me!

  • H and I would love to do holidays with his family but I am afraid of winter in the mountains. I am a nervous driver in bad weather. We just usually go to my mom's and she is only 1/2 hour away. For Thanksgiving, we are supposed to go to her bf's brother's house. I told her we would make an appearance but we are going to figure something else out for after.

  • We are lucky all our family are close the furthest we may go is an hour.

  • If I go up to Kaleden (where all my extended family is), its a 4 hour drive in the summer a 5+ hour drive in the winter over mountain passes. We always drive, but there have been years that hwy closures have kept us from being able to go.

Otherwise all our immediate family is within 30 minutes so we stay local. My inlaws live up north for 6 months of the year so one of these years we will drive up to spend thanksgiving with them, but they are always local for Christmas.

  • For Thanksgiving, we'll probably be staying local, my brother's family and my parents all live within 5 miles of each other kind of local. :)

For Christmas this year, we're heading to the in-laws. This is the first year I can actually take time off, so I'm excited to be there.  (And thankful to have local family willing to house/pet sit :) haha)

  • Our family is all local within the same city as us. Except my dad who is 3 hours away and we just drive there but never on the actual day. We make a special trip on the weekends for that.
  • Staying home for Thanksgiving, but will be driving from Idaho to AZ (where in laws live) which is 15 hours, then to San Diego, to San Francisco, to AZ then back to ID. Exhausted just thinking about it but we love to travel! :)
  • We are staying home for Thanksgiving, but for Christmas we are spending it with H's family in VT. We first have to take a 45 minute boat ride and then a 5 hour car ride.

  • We're hosting Thanksgiving and we'll had to our parents for Christmas. They're 2 1/2 hours from us, but only 20 minutes away from each other, so we can see both sides. I'm hoping we can take the day after Christmas off again this year. It was nice to not have to drive home after such a long day.
