GTKY: Doctors

Do you prefer female or male obgyns? Why?

Re: GTKY: Doctors

  • I've only ever had male. I guess it doesn't matter really, just get in there do what you need to do and get the hell out and it's fine by me. Having been poked and prodded in that region by the infertility doctor recently has kind of made me numb to the whole process.

  • Female!  I don't really know why, I just feel more uncomfortable with a male.  I've only ever seen one male though and he was a total jerk (I was like 17 and it was just bad).  This question is ironic as I'm just in the process of trying to find a new OB/GYN- it's so hard to find a good one!  DH and I are finally TTC so I think this is more important now that I could legitimately be/get pregnant.

  • My first OBGYN experience was with a male, actually the Dr who delivered me, and I was asking him to put me on bc so it was super awkward. Since then I've only gone to females, although I'd go to a male if I had to.

  • Females! I guess for me it's also the awkward factor. Since I have PCOS it was very uncomfortable to me at 16 to see a male and try to explain any of the things to him. I saw a PA at the time and have stuck with females ever since. I will also mention that the PA I saw was the wife of the man who delivered me and I refused to see him.

Also I now have all female doctors I just got a new GP since mine moved to another city like 3 hours away. My old GP was a male this one just happens to be female.
  • I started with a male and then they HAD to have a female nurse in the room so it defeated the purpose. I have had female since. I feel like they understand a little better and I am more comfortable talking to them.

I have a male neurologist, a female optic neurologist and a male GP.

  • I absolutely prefer a female gyn. My first dr was a male and he said the stupidest things that any woman would know were ridiculous. It pissed me off enough to try a female gyn and I've been to a few since, but I'll never go back to a male gyn ever again.

  • I always had a female and I think I will stick to that. I hope the OBGYN I have to go to for my high risk I get to choose a woman!

  • My OB is male...at first I didn't like it but he's been super personable and understanding and I'd rather have a male who gives me time of day then a female who rushes me...my gp was female and I always felt rushed..I've since switched gp's
  • Female. I am just more comfortable with a female over a male.

  • Any OB I've gone to has been a female. I believe there were two males in my delivery room though. I delivered at a teaching hospital and I told them that I didn't care who was there to watch. I just wanted my baby out haha
