Period totally irregular?

I swear, I don't know if it is because I am totally paying wayyy more attention now to my cycles or what.  It seems as if my cycles have gone out of wack.  Totally not regular at all.  It usually would be about every 28 days, now it hops all over.  1 month it was only 23 days!!  Wtf, next was 25, another 28 again.  Anyone ever had this happen?  I go see my OBGYN Monday, so I will definitely talk with her about all of this, just wanted to see if this is the norm?  Thanks girls!  :)  xoxo Happy Tuesday!

Re: Period totally irregular?

  • Normal. At least they're short! They could be irregular 40-90 day cycles! Hopefully your OBGYN can give you more insight though!
  • Were they normal on hormonal birth control? Or did they used to be normal off BCPs as well? I got my first AF at 11 years old. They were wacky from then until I went on the pill at 20 years old. When I was off the pill they were all over the place again.
Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!

  • @lb1117 Yes they were. I haven't been on BC for a year and a half now, and it was pretty normal until I noticed just recently.  I was 12 when I got my first AF too, I used to have very heavy periods and normal.  Now, they have really became super short and light the past year or so.  Which is nice, but also has me wondering if something is odd.

  • I wouldn't call that "totally irregular". Your cycles can fluctuate a little month to month within normal parameters. That is short though so I'd suggest talking to your doc about it. How long is your LP? Is that short or are you just Oing early?

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

  • My guess is it's normal. All those numbers are within the normal range for cycle length.

  • That's technically not irregular. Talk to you GYN because you already have an appointment, but if you didn't have one it's not something I would advise you to see a doctor for.
  • Ok, 23 days just seemed really short to me. It is pretty abnormal for me, but no worries. :) Good to hear it isn't really irregular. I will talk with my GYN about it. We barely just started TTC. Is there anything I should ask my Dr about?? Any questions that may help us make this easier???:) Thanks ladies!!!

  • My cycles used to be 28 days every month, without fail, for years.  Until a few months before my wedding. Then they were 25-30 days. (and I haven't been on BC for about 12 years, so that has nothing to do with it for sure). I always thought I had textbook cycles (O on day 14, AF on 28), but now that I'm monitoring, I'm finding that's not the case.  The first month, when I thought AF was late, I realized I may just have O'd later. This cycle I O'd on CD 10, so I was expecting AF on CD 24, but she's still not here, although her symptoms are. So now I'm realizing I'm not as regular as I thought, but I still consider my numbers totally normal.

  • Most doctors will just tell you to make sure you are taking a PNV and to have sex EOD from days 12-18. If you are basically having normal cycles (around 28 days) then this is the best plan moving forward since you are new to TTC. Just have fun the first few cycles!

  • even before my husband and I started TTC I kept track of my cycles, 28 days like clockwork. the second we started TTC they were screwy like yours.

  • Your cycles are only varying by about 5 days. That's definitely not totally irregular. Mine have "regularly" varied by as much as 14 days (though more often by a full week), which sure as hell makes anticipating O difficult!

I might ask your doc about the shorter cycles (23 days), but if you're just Oing earlier those cycles and your LP is still more than 11 days, I'd say you're fine and don't have much to ask. I'd just let her know you're TTC, and she'll tell you take a PNV.

  • I'd be thrilled to have 'irregular' cycles that were just a few days off. I went over two years without a period before, now that's some wonky shit. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, I'm pretty sure your doc will agree. Good luck!

That's not irregular at all.  I have had 16 day cycles and that was an indicator of a problem (in my case I do actually have a problem) 23 days doesn't sound too far off to me.

I had that problem with the first kind I was taking, too. The ones I switched to earlier this year are sooooo much better! No sicky feeling no matter if I take it with food or without. They're the Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA.

Nature Made, I'm going to have to get those when I need more.  I am currently taking Your Nature's Bounty Life Multi Prenatal.  It makes it so difficult to take them too, since I really have to have a really FULL stomach. So these Nature Made PNV, you can take them on an empty stomach too??  If so, SOLD!!!  Lol

I was gonna suggest Your Life because they are the first multi (prenatal or not) to NOT make me sick if I take it on an empty stomach.  So much for that. I got nothin.

I take these too without problems!  Although, I normally just take with breakfast (I've heard it's beter for absorption).  My only complaint about them is that they are a horse pill and are freaking huge.

ETA:you're original question.  Those don't sound too bad unless like others have said your LP is less than 11 days.  I have had shorter cycles like you.

They are the only ones I have tried.  I had no idea at first, I just was getting sick, kind of freaked me out at first until I figured out that it was my PNV making me sick. Lol, real nice.  Everytime, unless my stomach was like super full, like after a huge meal.  Otherwise, I get hot, dizzy, sweaty and then throw up. That is so much fun. I was even thinking, geez, how is this going to work when I DO get pregnant?  I'm already sick to my stomach.  grrr

Do you take the Nature Made, or the Your Life???  And omg the pills are ginormous.  Oh wow, did I spell that word right??  Lol.  LP, what is that?  I'm still learning the lingo..

  • The Nature Made pills are pretty big, but they go down easily for me because they're slick (not like the uncoated pills that stick in your throat when they get a little wet).

LP = luteal phase (the part of your cycle after O and before AF).
