Go home, EW...you're drunk

Will someone please let EW know what a YA novel actually IS? Jeez.

Re: Go home, EW...you're drunk

  • Huh?

I would say that about a third of those classify as YA.

  • It looks like "required high school reading" equals YA to them.

I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • I would say that most of them are YA.
  • About a third of these are children's/Middle Grade books, not YA.
    The Giver
    Betsy-Tacy
    A Wrinkle in Time
    Hatchet
    Holes

Books with teen protagonists that are told in the style of the character being older and looking back on his/her life as a child are generally not classified as YA
    A Separate Peace
    To Kill a Mockingbird
    Prep (WTF)

Flowers for Algernon is one I teach in 8th grade, but Charlie, the MC is 37, FFS.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is published as adult, not YA
The Hobbit? Dune? Huck Finn? Not YA.

And then the pairings...how can you compare standalone titles to an entire series? Could you have found more Apples and Oranges to compare? Nick & Norah's vs The Arrival? REALLY?

    This list is so dumb.

  • This makes me... furious, actually.

    Wow.

  • EW is only interested in YA books if they're about to made into movies. This roundup is pretty pathetic and embarrassing, even for them.
