Re: *Amanda
I think you handled it well, I was going to add more, but decided not to. People need to focus on retirement before kids' colleges. You can get loans for schools, but not retirement. Ask my parents... it sucks and in the end they will probably be living with us. not something they thought would have to happen.
Jeff is like Shawn, school wasn't for him. We already talked and depending on the kid, we might push trade school too. Or even military.
My CW has 100K+ of student loans... I had 33K and guess what? We do the same things, making the same amount of money. You don't need the fancy school to get a good job. You need good grades.
Thanks
I don't know who that woman is but it's pretty clear she hasn't read my blog. I talk about how I feel about that stuff often. Anyone who knows me, knows that I don't think college is the be all, end all. Yes school is important but it really isn't for everyone. I'm not going to rehash my feelings here but you know what I mean. I was trying not to be rude to her but I thought her comment was a little strong. Crushing student loan debt? Hm.. neither my husband or I have that and we both have good careers.
ETA - Maybe I'm a bad mom but when my child was 9 days old, I wasn't thinking about sending him off to college.
Jeff saw my comment and looked at her pictures... she hangs out with guys in dog collars. KLASSY! She also works for the Navy so I was going to ask if her TSP (our retirement) was maxed out, but I didn't.
I 100% agree with you. We might set something aside, but it's not going to be in a 539 or whatever. I want to use it for whatever I want!
