Stupid Question about Baby Dresses.

So my SIL just had a girl on Wednesday, and it's my first niece. I am so excited (I have 4 nephews, and while I love them dearly... it's a girl)!

I really want to get her a cute dress for Christmas, but I want her to be able to wear it for longer than 0-3 months, and I don't care that she doesn't wear it right away. Is a 6-12 mos good? I am clearly clueless when it comes to baby sizing.

Re: Stupid Question about Baby Dresses.

  • Hmmm. This might just be me thinking out loud.

I would be most concerned about seasons. Dresses that are out now are more fall/winter. If you are somewhere warm, then I guess this doesn't apply.

Cora didn't get into 0-3 month clothes until she was 1 month old, and then wore them for about 2 months.

I would get either a 3-6m (in Carters this might be 6m) or a 6-9m (Carters is 9m) dress. This way, she can wear it during the winter once she fits into it.

Cora had a ton of 0-3 month dresses (she was born in August) that she never got to wear because she didn't get into that size until it was colder out.

  • Also, I felt like Cora was in 9m clothes forever.

  • I'm in NE, so it'll be cold, and while it's a cotton dress, it's a thicker corduroy fabric. However, it's just so stupidly cute that I may get more than one for her to have for later.

    It's this dress: http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Baby-0-3yrs-Dresses-Pinnies/73101-NAV/Baby-0-3yrs-Navy_Robin-Appliqué-Apron-Pinnie.html?m=3

  • In NE that will need tights and a turtle neck onesie or other long sleeve shirt, so I'd say a 3-6 month would maybe work (depending how big baby is now) for a while. It'll be big for a while but she can grow into it and probably use it for most of winter that way.

  • Yes, thank you for reminding me about the l/s undershirt! She's a newborn, and I wasn't sure how fast babies grew. I think I'll go with the 3-6.

  • She'll be swimming in it for a while, but if the undershirt fits I bet she could get away with it.

  • You have great taste in dresses! Boden sells coordinating undershirts and tights - you can't go wrong.
