Update on H's job

He got 2 offers!!!!!

The one we weren't too happy with, it's a pay cut, possible he would be gone all week and it's not car hauling which is his dream.  We were talking about it when I got home and I told him to just wait and see.

While I'm heating up dinner, he got the second offer!  It's car hauling for an owner operator.  So a guy owns the tractor trailer and Jeff will drive it for him (I think he has 6 trucks).  It gets his foot in the door to move up to his dream job, and owner operator is something else he wants to do, so he can see how it works.  Downside it's 1099, so we will have to figure out how to pay the taxes.  We have a CPA that does our taxes, so I'm pushing to go talk to her if he decides that's what he wants to do.  Oh and the owner operator said his other new driver is coming from same company Jeff is working for now.  I'm glad it's not just us tired of the BS.

  • That is awesome!!
  • Congrats!! Second one does sound more promising and I'm sure there should be an easy way to handle the tax stuff.

  • Awesome!!  I did a ton of 1099 work as local counsel for out of state firms last year when I still had my private practice, and I was dreading the tax implications, but it really wasn't bad.  We also had a CPA walk us through it.

YAY someone knows about this!  Did you just pay at the end of the year or quarterly?

  • I just paid at the end of the year, since it was my side job it wasn't bad at all.  I'm not sure if it would have been different had that been my sole, larger income...You would think they'd teach this stuff in law school!  Nope!

  • That's great news!  I worked for a real estate company as a receptionist and they paid me as 1099.  I was 16 at the time, but if I remember correctly, I paid my taxes at the end of the year.  I just set aside $$ from each paycheck so it wasn't a huge hit all at once.

  • That's wonderful news!  I don't think the 1099 is a huge deal, I believe as long as you put money aside, you pay at the end of the year.  H is a CPA, I can ask him when he gets home from work and get back to you if you want.
