Willl

Has anyone used an online source to do your will? Which one...how much $$? And how much does a lawyer cost to do it? We need to do this- it was on my to-do list before I had L (2.5 years ago).

Re: Willl

  • We were just talking about this. I went on Legal Zoom just to play around on it. I forget the price but it wasn't that bad. I have no idea what it would cost through a lawyer.

  • oh boy I have no idea!
  • I work for an estate planning lawyer so we're getting our's done through him but I can tell you that Legal Zoom is okay for a very simple will. If you can swing it though, I'd see an attorney. I can't tell you how many people we see that have completely screwed up their wills by doing it through an online program.

Also, please get a Power of Attorney and a Health Care Directive. We have people coming to us all of the time in crisis mode because something happened to a loved one who didn't have those things and there isn't much that the family can do without it. You can get a guardianship through the courts but its expensive and time consuming and could be avoided entirely if only that person had a POA.

Great advice. Thanks! DH have talked about it, but like Steph haven't done anything about it. Oops!

  • And @amcourt09 about how much $$?
  • Thank you for the reminder! We also talk about this all the time, but haven't done it yet.

It depends on what you want done and how complicated it is. My office couldn't do it because you're in PA. I don't know what PA attorneys charge.

  • M & I had ours done (including Health Directive & POA) all before I had my first surgery two years ago. I think for the two of us combined it was $700 for everything.
