Any Interest In A GP Biggest Loser Type Contest?

Some of my friends and I started a three month long Biggest Loser "contest" last year that ended up being really successful! I was wondering if anyone on GP would be interested in joining if I started a GP only Biggest Loser contest?

Basically how it would work would be everyone would send their starting weight and starting picture to me. I would put together a spreadsheet to keep everything organized. Each week on an agreed upon day, members would send their current weight (and a pic if they choose) to me. I would publish the results in a percentage lost format (percentage lost instead of lbs makes it fair for all different starting weights and body types). At the end, everyone takes an after picture, and we display it with the winners.

With my friends and family, there was a $30 start fee. The money was split among the first and second place winners (I think 70% and 30%); however, I'm totally on board if we want to play for bragging rights only.

Anyone interested?

Re: Any Interest In A GP Biggest Loser Type Contest?

  • I think that sounds awesome.
    imageimageimageAnniversary
  • I'd do it. But.... While I'd send you a picture, I wouldn't want it posted here.

Also, since we are all in the same boat, I think there needs to be a rule that if you get KU, you forfeit your money.

  • @ILoveRedVino - totally understand about the pictures!! If we get enough people to do it, maybe we can start a FB private page just for the Biggest Loser contest?

And totally agree that baby = we get your money!!! :-P

  • This is a great idea. I wouldn't be able to participate for a few months, though. :-/
  • my local board is doing this right now! they have a fb page and they don't post pictures of their bodies weekly, but of the scale.
  • I'm in.. I can use some motivation! All of the suggestions sound good. I'd rather not have my pic posted here (even tough there is one in my profile pic) and like the scale idea. Keep me posted!

  • I like the scale idea, and body pics only if comfortable. I'm totally in but would prefer to do it for bragging rights. Could people opt in to pay the $30 and only those who did are eligible for winning the cash? Is that too complicated?

  • I'll give it a shot.. :)

    Love the 'baby penalty'.  :)

FWIW, I'd gladly give up $30 for a baby (assuming @seahorse01 doesn't get my free baby to me anytime soon.)

@lindsayandjamie- my only question about the opting in would be what happens to the pot if someone ineligible wins- would it go to the winning-est opt-in-ers? Or would it just be returned to those who opted in? Something else?

  • I don't have fb and I'm not getting it for this. I am not putting a picture of a scale on the internet. I think we should be able to trust that Amanda will interpret our results correctly. I don't think money needs to be involved.

  • I'm doing this on my anni board right now. We did a private challenge on skinnyo.com. To make it private, it costs $10. That might be a good alternative to doing a FB page.

  • @lilliesandvino - thanks for bringing up the FB thing. I didn't even think of people who may not have it.

We don't HAVE to do pictures. Anyone who wants to give pics can, even if they're face free,And we don't have to do money, although I'm happy to do a cash prize for people who want to. Those who want to play for free just won't be eligible for cash, but still for bragging rights. :-)

  • If we do it before the holidays, it may help to stave off the extra holiday weight. Well, the extra accountability would help me at least.

  • @lilliesandvino Many of the ladies here have indicated to me that they would be interested in participating after the holidays; however, like you, I also could use the extra accountability.

Wanna be my accountability buddy and then we'll be ready to smoke these gals come 1/1/14? ;-)
