Afternoon Randoms

Let's pass the time until the weekend can officially start!

Re: Afternoon Randoms

  • I got "in trouble" with Noah's teacher and I'm irrationally irritated by it.  He has an assignment book and at the beginning of the year we were asked to initial it every day, and to keep up our end of the parent/teacher/student relationship.   On Tuesdays I go to the gym at 6.   So in an hour I feed the kids a quick meal, get everyone in the house and settled, change my clothes, check home work and then drive over to the gym to meet DH.  (He doesn't get home in enough time for me to get there by 6).   So on Tuesday I forgot to initial it and she circled the day in big blue marker.   I have checked that damn thing and initialed it every single day since school started.  She can't give me one pass?   I'm not a slacker parent.
  • Why is it only on days you need the kids to nap that they don't? I guess the 15 minute power nap he took in the car was all I got today. At least he's in a good mood and being too cute for me to mind too much.

  • Amber, that is so annoying!  It's not like you forgot consistently all school year, you would think that she'd be kind enough to not point out one little oversight.

I don't really have much to contribute to this post.  I ate a late lunch at my desk, and now I'm keeping my door shut so that I can clip a giant stack of coupons that I brought in to do, I'm way behind on that task. it's making me feel like a little old lady....I'm sitting here with my space heater cranking because it's freezing in my office, clipping coupons, singing to myself...I'm just missing a cat and a bathrobe.

  • Ugh Amber - so annoying! I get it - Gavin relates comments from the teacher about homework, etc. and it annoys me, too. They get a writing assignment every Monday (or the weekend prior if I think to check the website) and it is to be turned in on Fridays. Well, we typically finish it up on Wednesday nights, but I'm apparently not allowed to "store" it in his folder until Friday, which means I need to not only find a place to keep it at home (that won't get mixed in with personal papers or get into the hands of the cruising child), but also remember to get it into the folder.

Last week, between Halloween the night before, the Saint costume I had to make for him to wear on Halloween, Mass Day being changed to Friday last week (due to All Saints Day) - this means dress uniform that day, and a poster he had to bring in, we all totally forgot. Why she can't just ignore that one sheet in his folder for ONE day.... grrr....

I'm so aggravated at a team member. The person is technically "higher" than me and is a coordinator of all of the jobs that comes in; meaning, that person (and one other) coordinate and assign jobs that come in. This is supposed to happen within 2-3 hrs of receiving. This hasn't been happening and jobs are going a day or more without being assigned. On top of that, with me being remote, I occasionally need help with print and mailing of a job and while I always go to one colleague in Pgh, he is on vacation this week. Well, you'd think I asked this other colleague to walk to Iceland to pick up my job at the print shop and hand deliver it to someone else on the floor. I don't give two hoots what level you are - you already have an easier job than mine, get paid a hell of a lot more, and we're all on the same team. Our boss would gladly do it if she was there. I'm so sick of the attitude of this person and I am not the only person who has made comments to the boss about them. Ugh. I don't have time for this shite.

Ugh, that would be eating away at me!  You should get a free pass.  Ignore the cranky teacher.

  • Thanks for making me feel better everyone!

Sarah - car naps were created by the devil.  You don't know how many times I've been singing or just constantly calling their names or something to keep them awake in the car!  It's like those 15-20 minutes take the edge off so they won't nap later, but it's not enough that they're not complete and total messes either!
  • That is annoying Amber! I'm all about the importance of parental engagement in what is going on at school, but having to initial a form every night would annoy me greatly!

Thankfully, H gets her packet on day 1 and it is due in day 6. The work is broken day into what sheets you should be doing each day with 5 slots for parent initials, but we don't check the work or initial until the night before it's due. Unless it is due the day after soccer practice, in which case we make sure it's done a day early.

I have no interesting randoms. I'm just ready for 5pm to get here...

  • I bought a cape sweater something like this...

    image
I can't decide if it's "crazy old lady" or cute. I'm wearing it with gray boots and jeans. It's so comfortable, I don't really care if I look like a crazy old lady.

Earlier I had posted in the TGIF thread that I really wanted Indian for dinner. Casey called me shortly after and asked what I thought about getting Indian for dinner. I'm very happy.

I'm thinking about investigating laser hair removal.

I was just looking at some cape sweaters.  I think it looks so cozy!

  • I am going to be a teacher's worst nightmare, because I am never going to remember to do any of that stuff!  I'm lucky I remember to pack their lunches every day, haha!

Ryan, I bought a cape sweater at the end of winter last year ($99 on sale for $12!!!  I couldn't pass it up.)  Now I am debating if I really like it or not, but I think I will just go with it!

I think I am going to get a gobblerito for dinner tonight.

  • Meghan - it is like a 2nd job keeping up with paperwork once they're in school.  Permission slips and homework and report cards and lunch money.  We are always getting a notice that Noah's lunch account is in the negative...because we just forget to send a check once a month.  (Although that's easier than sending money daily!)

Also, my brother wants us to have gobbleritos for Thanksgiving dinner!  Since my dad fell and can't walk/get around, my mom needs my brother and I to step in and do his part to still have Thanksgiving.   My brother's brilliant solution is to order 15 gobbleritos.  I veto'ed that idea right quick!  (not that it's not good, but it's not Thanksgiving dinner.  And I already have to eat sub-par Thanksgiving at my inlaws every other year.  This is my year to stuff my gourd with all of the food!)
  • yesterday I wore a cute but puffy sweater thing that I know makes me look pregs (I'm not but I have some nebby coworkers).  I just said eff it, I like it and I'm wearing it anyway.

I brought my stuff to swim after work today and I'm trying to talk myself into going.

If I get home and there are still dirty dishes from Monday night in my kitchen (like there were when I left this morning) I am going to flip my lid.

  • Amber-I would be annoyed. You missed on day, not the end of the world. The highlighting in blue was uncalled for.

I just spent $115 on Legos.

DH favorite part of Thanksgiving is making homemade Gobbleritos. My mom buys him tortilla shells every year.

  • Amber - I would refuse a gobblerito for Thanksgiving too!  They are so good, but I try to eat them at the beginning of November, so I don't get tired of Thanksgiving dinner by Thanksgiving.  I also used to suffer through a sub-par Thanksgiving dinner at the in-laws (cranberries in the shape of a can, anyone? No?  How about some I Can't Believe It's Not Butter in spray bottle form for your mashed potatoes then?), but by the grace of God, I was able to create a holiday arrangement where we don't have to eat at their house anymore!

My grandmother, god love her, is a terrible cook.  Her mashed potatoes are exactly that, mashed, potatoes.  No butter, no salt, no pepper, no milk--but until we started renting a hall to have our family celebrations a few years ago, she insisted on making them.  You wanted to be sure to be at the front of the line...or you wouldn't get any gravy.

Me too! I love tons of gourmet and "real" food, but we've always had the jellied sauce. Tradition! ;-)

Oh, I like it too, I just don't leave it in the shape of the can when I serve it. I'm just picking on my in-laws! :)

And this is why I insist on hosting holidays.  My ILs made one of those fake turkey breasts the year I was pregnant with EJ for some holiday... maybe easter?  anyway it was like eating a loaf of deli turkey.  This is when I began having a poultry aversion. it was so wrong.

Seriously - I mean I, at least, slice it so it doesn't look like the can! :P
