Having trouble with eating for two...or even eating for one.

So, I'm 20 weeks, and nothing ever really sounds appetizing.  I eat, but I know I've lost weight rather than gained this pregnancy (I can see it in my face), and there are many nights where DH cooks and I just can't do it.  I know I need to eat (and probably eat more) but I get full so fast and have no desire to eat.  Add to this that I have been getting headaches that make the thought of eating nauseating and I'm not sure what to do.  I do drink lots of water, so at least I'm getting that, but I don't know what else to do.  My OB doesn't seem concerned (I am overweight to begin with) but I don't know.

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.

  • Just do what you can and eat what sounds good. Your baby will take what it needs from you, and your appetite will probably come back, at least sometimes. I lived on goldfish and granola bars for weeks at several points during my pregnancy.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • I lost 25 lbs and didn't gain any weight til about 20 weeks. My doctor only recently got concerned (I'm 31 weeks along) since baby should be gaining about half a lb per week. I have growth ultrasounds and baby actually measures a little ahead. He said as long as I'm hydrated, taking my vitamin, and told me to eat what sounds good to me (even if its only a milk shake). Hope you get to feeling better! It sucks!

I wouldn't be concerned at all.  There was just a survey on my BMB and about half of the ladies on there were actually down in weight (most are between 17-22 weeks)

As far as the "nothing being appetizing" part- that sucks.  I'm sorry.  I survived on noodle soup, potatoes, pizza and bananas those first few months.

  • Sorry you're feeling like this.  I agree with PPs that I wouldn't be concerned at this point.  Your body is very smart and will tell you when it needs something. Eat whatever sounds good.

  • Ugh that sucks! I hope you get your appetite back soon! Maybe you can try eating lots of smaller snacks (that are actually appealing to you) if you're getting too full to really eat a normal meal?

Don't worry at all and listen to your body. With twins, I gained no weight until about 20 weeks, then I got in "trouble" because I gained too much in 2 weeks. Now, even though the babies gain .5 pounds each week and almost weigh 5 lbs, I haven't gained an ounce in almost 7 weeks. My doctor is fine with it and the babies are growing so all is good. I have gained a total of 20 pounds so far and I was never sick.
