Tricks for removing remnant wax from jar candles?

I have several jar candles that have burnt down as far as they will go and I want to re-purpose them and use them as candle holders, etc, but does anyone have any tricks from getting the remnant wax and wick out of the bottom?

Re: Tricks for removing remnant wax from jar candles?

  • Put the jar in the freezer for a little while. Then the wax will come right out with the use of a butter knife.

You could also pour boiling water in them.  The wax will apparently melt and rise, but I've never done it myself.  Be careful with the hot water though!
Also, one tip I read about was to put the jar in the sink while you are doing dishes.  The steam from dish washing will loosen up the wax.

  • I put mine in the freezer.  It only takes about 30 minutes or so, and then the wax pops right out.
