Wacky Wednesday Poll

I had a fun FB chat with a NBCer last night, and discovered new things about her I didn't know before. In honor of that:

1) Tell us something people here might not know about you.

2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of.

3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!

Re: Wacky Wednesday Poll

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you.  I don't think there's anything I haven't told you guys.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of.  At this point in my life, it's graduating college.  I'm the only one on either side of the family with a bachelors degree that I know of.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!  No.

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you.
Thats a tough one. Have I ever told you ladies that I am allergic to sea food? In relation to that I graduated from College taking Fish and Wildlife and Fishing is one of my hobbies.
    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of.
Paying off my student loans is one of my biggest not child/dog related accomplishments. I did it on my own and was happy to have it done with.
    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!
I don't have a lot of embarrassing moments. This one is more funny than embarrassing, but once, a  few years ago, I went to work with 2 belts on. I started early that morning and for some reason I wore 2 belts, one over the other. I didn't realise for a couple of hours when I went to use the bathroom. After that one of my friends asked me why I was wearing 2 belts. It was pretty funny.
  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you.  I'm not sure I can come up with something off the top of my head.  I think I'm fairly open here.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of.  Graduating college.  I practically failed out my first time around, but I went back at night and graduated magna cum laude in 2011.  I'm one of those people that 18 wasn't old enough for college.  I should have taken a break.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare! Once at summer camp I had my period.  After dinner I got up and I noticed that I leaked all over the bench seat.  I was so mortified I ran away.  I don't have a clue if anyone saw, but no one mentioned anything.  That's one of many times that happened, but that was the only time I didn't, um, clean up my mess.

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you. Ummm..... I played Marty in my HS production of Grease. They had a friend of the director play Vince Vontaine. He got way to into his part. He ended up giving me a hickie the size of a golf ball during the dance scene. :/ It was uber awkward with my parents in the audience.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of.  Well, recently, I raised enough money to install a new playground at our town's local YMCA. The install was last month and I am still on a high from this accomplishment. (Woo hoo).  Other than that it is a daily accomplishment I finish everything I need to do in a day without ripping my hair out.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!  Cripes, I can't even think of anything good here.............

    1) Tell us something people here might not know about you. A few years ago one of my doctors added "MRIs" under my list of allergies. I had a spinal fusion when I was 11 so MRIs are a no-no. It makes any new doctor that I meet laugh when they see it.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of. Probably buying our house. We got married and bought our house within a year. Also, dealing with everything DH & I dealt with these past few months. I'm not sure if that's really an accomplishment but I'm proud of the way we dealt with everything together-one of the first tests on us as a couple.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare! One day at work instead of calling my mom, I called my cell phone instead. While the desk phone was calling out, I saw my cell phone start ringing so I answered it. It had been a long week.

Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you.

I have never been on Facebook or Twitter. I have been tempted a couple times, like when my stepbrother was deployed and when we moved to SC. My DH & I both avoid it because it just seems like it causes a lot of unneccessary drama. 2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of. Becoming a Marine.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare! I have so many of these. I always remember this one particular moment from when I was little though. I always worshipped the ground my stepbrother walked on. He is 11 years older than me. One Halloween when I was about 7, my stepbrother & his GF took me trick-or-treating in her neighborhood. I was trying to be super cool, mind you. When we stopped at her house, they were all talking about how they liked Pat Benetar (it was the 80s, obvs.). His GF then asked me if I liked Pat Benetar. I try to play it off like I know who Pat Benetar is and say, "Yeah, I like him a lot!". My little 7 year old self was totally mortified. Pat Benetar is a woman for those of you who may not know. My stepbrother teased me about it for weeks.

I can cross my eyes one at a time. For example, I can have one eye crossed and the other one staring at you.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of.
I'm proud of how well A and I are handling our long distance for many reasons.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!
Once I was meeting up with some friends at a bar.  When I arrived and began walking towards them I didn't notice there was a lime on the floor.  Well, I slipped on the lime, legs flew in the air and knocked out about 5 drinks in the process.  This all happened before any alcohol was in my system.

  • 1. I am originally from Russia. I guess that's why I love Russian lit so much :)
    2. Buying a house and surviving 2 years and counting with 3 children, and 5 years of twins. My husband also commutes really far every day, so he is gone for 12 hours every day, so I am in charge of everything kid-related (in addition to working full time), and just the fact that I am still alive and not gone crazy is an accomplishment :)
    3. I cannot think of anything :( I am lame, sorry!

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you.  I'm 23, almost 24. I'm 5 feet and 3/4 inches. I get mistaken for a fourteen year old all the time (I get carded buying video games for DH). I'm a crappy driver.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of. I'm the first person in my family to graduate from college. I am also the first person in my family to go to graduate school. I'm also pretty proud of myself as the oldest sister. I have five younger sisters and pretty much take care of them because my mom is AWOL and my dad doesn't have a big enough place for everyone.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare! I told my boss last year in a text that I couldn't come to work because I was feeling a little dick and was going to the doctor. Feeling a little dick. Like why is the s and d key next to each other???

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you.  I have a case of SEVERE knock knees (basically my knee caps are on the insides of my legs instead of the front) and in order to fix them I would need to have the doctors reconstruct both legs from the hip to the ankle.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of.   Buying my first home (by myself) at 24 and living single for 9 years.  And for almost having my first home paid off before selling in 2005 (I only owed about 10k on my mortgage).  So I walked away from the closing table with a BIG check.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!  I embarass myself pretty much every day of my life.  Mostly it involves tripping up or down stairs; knocking myself in the head; falling down; or saying the most inappropriate things at the worst times.

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you. My husband is a stagehand in DC, so sometimes I get to go to really cool things for free, like seeing Cirque Du Soleil or The Washington Ballet's Nutcracker.  We started off as theatre geeks and continued being that way forever I guess.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of. So 5 years ago I got really sick a month before I was going to start my Appalachian Trail thru hike.  Big plans....
Anyway, I had to cancel that and spent the summer in bed and in the hospital.  No one knew what was wrong but I had some serious, scary problems.  Turns out on one of my backpacking trips I got bit by a tick and ended up with Lyme disease. They think it bit near my neck so I ended up with a lot brain issues.  But it was so long from the bite to the diagnosis that finding a dr to treat for longer than 2 weeks was a challenge.  I still suffer from it today.  But now I am doing things that 5 years ago I could not.  I'm going camping and hiking and kayaking and swimming and biking.  I'm trying to push myself even though the pain is always going to be with me.  And I guess I'm proud of that.
So my public service announcement...if you get bit by a tick, go get some antibiotics stat!

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!  I love to bake and I'm good at coming up with my own recipes.  Sometimes experiments flop.  I love no bake peanut butter cornflake chewy cookies.  So years ago I figured that adding chocolate into the mix would be awesome.
Awesomely dog poo look alikes.  Not so embarrassing really, but as it was my contribution to Christmas dessert and I got teased a lot....it made me not want to make cookies again for a long time.  Luckily I got over it and I generally do test runs of everything that I'm going to be sharing with anyone other than my husband now.

    1) Hmm, I'm generally an open book. My boss once told me that I was exactly the same, no matter what situation I was in. (We were discussing how some people act differently around people that rank above them vs below them.) I guess the fact that I have a total potty mouth and have a talent for being able to turn ANYTHING into sexual innuendo is something you guys might not know, since I don't let it fly here.

    2) I survived 6 surgeries in 2 years, that was a really hard time in my (and my husband's) life, but we rallied. Also, I climbed Fresno Dome. (To about 7500 ft.)

    3) At work, we send out job postings to the entire staff with a link to apply. Once, I sent out a the link to the Nest instead. Thank goodness the link went to the Nest home page, instead of my local board. In true Nest fashion, however, the home page was all about spicing up your sex life. Whoopsie.

    1) Tell us something people here might not know about you. All my fingers are crooked except my thumb.  If I hold them out, the right hand fingers bend a bit to the right and the tips back and my left hand bends a bit to the left and back.  It's most apparent in my middle finger.  Nothing ever happened - just born that way.
    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of. If I get 50k in this month for NaNoWriMo, I think it'll be that but since it's not done yet, I choose being a successful adult.  I know that sounds strange but I'm proud that I own a home, have been at the same job for six years, and have my car and CC bills almost paid off.
    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!  I embarrass myself often.  I think that last time was when I didn't realize I had a hole by the pocket on the back of my jeans and you could see my underwear.  I didn't realize all day.

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you. DH and I are taking the test in December to become certified beer judges.
    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of. My MBA for sure. It was a ton of work and I was first of my cousins on both side to get any sort of degree let alone a graduate degree. My dad has his MBA too, and we both got them from Penn State.
    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare! I once handed out awards at an association event. That part of the program was maybe 20 minutes, but I had a hole in the seam of the back of my pants the whole time. Totally had to turn around and grab the awards too so people were definitely given the opportunity to look at my butt. Thankfully I was wearing black pants and black underwear so it wasn't really noticable to the audience. I hid for the rest of the event.

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you. I don't like cake.  At all.  Never have.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of. Flying 9 hours to Hawaii.  I am T-E-R-R-I-F-I-E-D of flying.  Terrified.  Honestly, after doing that, I really feel like I can do anything.  Childbirth without drugs was a piece of cake compared to walking on that airplane.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare! I don't get embarrassed too easily but early on when DH and I were dating, we went away for the weekend to this nice resort.  One night I was so excited about the sunset that I ran out to the balcony.  Except, the door wasn't open like I thought and I ran right into the glass door.

  • 1) Tell us something people here might not know about you. I was the napkin eating champion in high school.  Yes, it was a real thing.  You take a napkin (not a paper towel) and unfold it, put the tip on your tongue, and put your hand behind your back.  Someone says go and the first person to get the napkin in their mouth, using only their mouth, wins!  I've only lost about 5 times since I started at 12.  I'm 30 now.
    :P
    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of
    1. Having two beautiful and amazing kids.
    2. Making it 12 years with my husband- we were high school sweet hearts.. we've been married for 6 years.
    3.  I was the first in my immediate family to go to a university, the first to graduate from a university, and the first to get my masters.
    4.  My teaching... I was voted one of the most influential/liked teachers at my school this year.
    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!  I feel like I make a fool of myself daily, whether it is at work with my students, or at home with my kids.  But, one time in high school I was wearing jeans and hadn't realized that they were ripped basically all the way down the seam on my butt.  Luckily, a kid in my first period class told me (or laughed at me before class), so I was able to leave without too many people seeing.

    2) Tell us something you've accomplished that you're proud of. The amount of time it'll take me to graduate with my Bachelors. I did 2 years at a major university fresh out of high school but couldn't afford any more than that. I went back in 2011 with a completely different major and will graduate in May 2014. I'll have finished in a total of 5 years, 4 of which I was also working full+ time. That's how long many traditional students (including DH) take.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare! I sort of danced topless in my 10th grade history class on accident.  :\">

Long story -- We were doing presentations on the 20s and 30s and my topic was music and art. As part of my presentation I dressed up as a flapper and danced the Charleston. Except that my top fell down. Which I didn't notice until someone in the class pointed out to me (with all the grace of 15 year olds) that it was down. To this day I have no idea how long I was topless. I finished my presentation and skipped school the next day. I got an A though.

I really love what I do and today I had a class of graduate students come into the museum and ask really thoughtful and engaged questions about museums, which made me feel like a great big smart grownup professional.  Still glowing about that.  Also, I just interviewed for our museum a woman who flew with the WASP during WWII.  She made me feel quite humble, but she is incredibly amazing and I'm so honored to have met her.  I already plan to send her a birthday card next month.

    3) Tell us about an embarrassing moment, if you dare!
I had bunion surgery a couple of years ago, and I went on my crutches into the bathroom at work.  I really had to pee, and the floor was wet and my crutches went out from under me and I fell and peed my pants.  I blamed the wet floor for my wet pants and had to have someone take me home so I could change clothes.
