Mason jar crafts - ideas?

I am going to be getting a ton of mason jars in various sizes from my aunt (to use as part of my wedding decor) and I know I will have a good number left over. I'm looking for some mason jar craft project ideas for year round as well as holiday. I plan to make some mason jar snow globes for the holidays but does anyone have any other project ideas (holiday or year round) for the other left over mason jars? Thanks in advance!

  • I saw some really cute mason jars turned into sewing kits--they made the lid into a pincushion and  put some sewing essentials in the jar.  Just google "mason jar sewing kit"

  • The pinterest link that Becky posted has lots of cute ideas!

It's not very cute or crafty, but you can always use them for food storage.  I've been saving all kinds of glass jars for that purpose.  We get lots of dry rice and beans, and the plastic bags that they come in always seem really flimsy.  Last year little ants found our pantry and since then, every food item gets transferred into glass, or sturdy plastic containers.

I saw someone post on a blog that they store snacks and chips in portion-sized containers.  Instead of grabbing the whole bag of chips, you grab a jar perfect for one serving to curb over-eating (depending on the snack/jar size, mason jars might not work for that).  I thought it was a neat idea, although not everyone will like it.  I'm sure it will take lots of containers, and storage space.  :-)

You can also put ingredients in jars to make hot coco (or chi tea, or cookies, etc.) that you can hand out as gifts.  Decorate the lids, and print out cute labels/instructions.  That might be a good way to get rid of the jars, if you have any extra after crafting.

  • You can make something like this:

I made these myself for half of my wedding centerpieces.
