Update on H's Job Interview

A few weeks ago, I told you that H got offered a job interview in D.C. Well, he had his interview yesterday and he said that it went incredibly well. Now we play the waiting game to see if they make him an offer and what that offer entails. He said that they're looking for someone to start in January...our current lease doesn't expire until Feb, so we might negotiate on that if he gets an offer. Also, since we have to relocate, I hope we hear something soon since we have to find housing, etc during the holiday season (aka no one really works in December LOL).

...and I just found out that I did NOT get the fellowship that I applied for. I'm 0/2 at the moment. It's frustrating, but to be expected since so many Ph.D.s are leaving academia for "non-traditional" fields and competition is more fierce than ever for these fellowships.

Good news about your H and his interview. Don't give up on the fellowship. Something will come up for you. The nice thing about DC is there are a lot of temporary housing options because it's such a transient area so you would likely be able to find a temporary solution if needed at first. Sending you t&p about your fellowship and your H's job.

I can't beat myself up about not getting the fellowship. I'm sure the applicant pool was huge this year, since they haven't had money to sponsor fellows for a few years now. Everyone I know who is interested in science policy/advocacy applied for this fellowship! Historically, you have about a 10% chance of being selected, but I'm sure that % was much lower this year.

Another update:

They emailed H yesterday, and wanted to set up a phone call for today. I'm not sure what they want, but I take this as a good sign! Also, they asked him to submit his references as well as his physician assistant certification and license info.
