  • Buy for sure.  It's such a process to go through, but I love being able to do whatever I want to do to my house!  I would like to buy a few properties and rent them out though.

  • It depends on the situation. We currently rent because we knew that we weren't going to be staying in Rochester longterm. We'll be renting for at least a year when we move because we want to learn more about the area before we make the commitment to buy, plus we need to save up $$$ for a down payment. Eventually, once we decide on where we want to settle and have the $ for a down payment, we definitely want to buy.

  • I see advantages to both. We own and I love our house and being homeowners. But, I wouldn't mind renting a house and having someone else do the maintenance.

Yes, it is very nice to just pick up the phone and call the maintenance # when something is broken! A few days ago, there was a problem with our heat. We called maintenance, it was fixed within the hour, and it didn't cost us anything (although we do pay for that convenience in our rent).

  • If I was single I would rent.  Since there are two of us to help with the up-keep of the house I love owning.  I could never imagine going back to renting.
  • Build!  Lol.  We're building now.  In our area, it's cheaper to build than to buy.  The only downside of owning for me is selling.  I'm worried about selling our place when we're ready to move into the new house even though homes are selling well in our area.

  • I said buy if it's going to be your forever home (or at least longer than 5 years). I have many friends trying to sell right now and it's a stressful ordeal.

  • I would buy in a heartbeat if I could right now. Renting is becoming a pain for me as of lately.

  • Buy. In my area it's cheaper to buy then rent plus at the end of the day the money is going towards a long term asset not someone else's pocket.

  • Buy.  I want my own space that I can do whatever I want to it.  It would be nice to have someone else do all the maintenance, but that's the only perk that I see about renting.
  • Buy. We'd known for a while that we were going to live in a house when the lease on our apartment was up, but we assumed we'd be renting. It was so much money that we decided to look at buying a house and went that route.  The cost of renting a house is honestly more expensive than our mortgage, and our mortgage is high because we financed 95% and did it on a 15-year loan rather than a 30. I'd never rent again unless I knew I wasn't going to be in an area long.
