Husband and I have been working to pay off his debts. We are on payment plans with several companies. One thing I am all of sudden noticing that we are getting collection notices from companies my husband doesn't remember and weren't listed on his credit report. The amounts vary and of course they are all threatening legal action. Luckily I've read the fine print on how to dispute the balances owed, so I am. So far on the ones that I've asked for details of the balance owed (like what are the items they claim he owes for) they are no longer persuing collections on us. I'm not sharing this information as a way to get out of paying on debts owed, but to make people aware that if you get a bill from someone and you don't recognize it as something that you owe, it's ok to send a letter and question it and as for explanation of the balance owed. You are entitled to that information.
Re: New debts
Thanks! It's taking time but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it feels good to be doing the right thing by paying off his debts.
