Baby items in hospital bag

Other than a take home outfit, what did you pack for your little ones? Does the hospital supply all you need?

Re: Baby items in hospital bag

  • I brought a couple of outfits, a travel thingy of wipes, a few diapers, and a couple of blankets.  We only needed the outfit and blanket.

  • I've heard of some hospitals not providing diapers and the like, but I think that is very rare.

With this baby, we will only bring the take home outfit.

  • We brought the binkies we wanted to use and the bottles we wanted to use as well. It was nice to start her out right on what we wanted and all the nurses kept telling us it was awesome we brought them.

We also brought a cocoon that my mom made. It was nice to be able to stick baby in there to keep her warm and very good for when people visited and wanted to hold her plus we got adorable picture.

My mom also bought some sleepers and onesies as soon as she was born that were girly because we were team green. Again, I seem to be the odd one out here but I preferred getting her dressed at the hospital. I put her in a onesies underneath a sleeper for both days :)

  • Two going home outfits, carseat and cover (it was winter) blanket to take home to the dogs, hat, and a blanket for pictures. I wish I had brought a white noise machine.

  • We brought sleepers in two sizes, a tuque, the carseat and a heavy blanket to go over the seat because it was February.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!
  • All we used was our take home outfit. Unless you have specific preferences, that is all you "need" for baby during your stay. The hospital will provide necessities.

  • Thanks everyone.  This sounds really dense, but I really don't know - what does the hospital dress a baby in underneath the blanket/swaddle?

Ours had him in a white long sleeved shirt that buttoned on the side. Easy to change diapers and didn't tug on his cord.

  • Ours had nothing. He was in a diaper and swaddled during our entire stay. We put him in clothes for the first time when we left the hospital.

  • Ours had a kimono top, but it was huge on Cora.

  • We brought an outfit for the ride home in two different sizes and a blanket to put on the car seat for the ride home. While we were in the hospital, A wore a kimono top that was supplied by the hospital and was huge on her. The one thing I wish that I had brought that I didn't was a supply of wipes. Our hospital just gave us dry squares of cotton to use as wipes and in the MOTN, it was rather inconvenient to have to get up and wet the wipes to clean her off. Next time around, I'll definitely be bringing a travel-sized container of wipes.

  • Don't do what I did and bring everything, so not worth the hassle of bringing everything back into the car.

Next time around, I will be bringing two outfits for the hospital stay (I dressed my baby too!) along with the going home outfit and a blanket for cuddles and pictures. I will probably put in wipes and diapers to just keep in there.

  • We just brought 2 take home outfits (both GN, one NB size and the other 0-3). The hospital had everything else, and we didn't start cloth diapers until DS was about 3 weeks old.
