Laying down after sex?

I was wondering, and perhaps there really is no real answer.  But, after sex, when TTC, should I stay lying down for a certain amount of time, or is it okay if I get up and go?  I never really thought of it until now.  So now here I am, wondering if I should be staying put for a while afterwards.

So, what do you girls do?  And those of you who have gotten pregnant, did you notice any difference if you did it one way or the other?

  • No need to lay down.

  • Sometimes I would lay there for just a minute (usually because I was too lazy to get up), but often I would just get up and go.

  • I've gotten up, laid down, stood on my head, peed and I'm still not PG. Haha I'm pretty sure all the good swimmers have been shot up as far as they need to go and nothing will really change that.

  • It's not really proven it helps at all but I do it it. I put a pillow under my hips and but and lay on my back for about 10 minutes. I just want the sperm up there as long as possible. Haha.

    Ditto.

And as for the time it finally worked, I wasn't bothering to think about hanging around. I'm pretty sure I just got up and went about whatever I wanted to do.

I've always heard that laying there and elevating your hips is an old wives tale... But after IUI, I had to lay still for 15 min and after IVF, it was 30 minutes plus a day of pelvic rest. So....

IUI - BFP! Baby boy born still - August 2012
    IVF - BFP - miscarriage June 2013
    FET - BFN
    FET - BFN

IVF with PGD - three embryos created, all healthy - July 2014
FET - transferred two embryos (boy and girl) - Nov 2014 - BFP!

  • I always seem to get up quick and go clean up.  I heard about that pillow under the butt thing.  Lol So many ways.  So many reasons. Yet nobody really knows.

  • Yeah, I never thought it mattered, but after all three IUI's I've been through they prop my hips up and have me lay there for 10 minutes - I guess it can't hurt....

  • I always used to do 5 minutes because that's all I had the patience for. The cycle I got pregnant, I was up right away because I really had to pee. Some people swear by it, I don't think it makes a difference. It is interesting that they have you prop your hips for IUI though.

  • Meh, I did it for almost a year and a half and I wouldn't say it helped at all. (Except that DH really wanted me to and offered to make dinner if I would lay there for 20 minutes. You should make an awesome deal like that!)

  • Meh, I don't think it matters that much. If I could manage to lay there for a minute or two, I would. Usually ST always makes me have to pee though and I'd make a mad dash for the bathroom.
