Canadians, come in!

The husband is in Toronto to watch a soccer game, and he has to bring back presents for his very understanding and supportive wife.  He has already been instructed to bring back some Timbits so I can see what everyone was talking about the other day.
Can I get a list of the cool candy and other things that I may not know exist?

Re: Canadians, come in!

  • Smarties (like M&Ms but I like them better)

    Coffee Crisp chocolate bar

    Caramilk chocolate bar

Aero chocolate bar (you can always get regular chocolate... and mint.  Lately I have been seeing orange ones, too.)

    Ketchup flavoured chips

    Nanaimo bars

    Butter tarts

We have some good junk food up here!  ;)

Maltesers. We have some really great wine grown just outside of Toronto in the Niagara region. It's available at any liquor store. If you like sweet wines, get some Icewine. It's great with a nice dessert. Kinder Surprise, just beware it may get seized at the border. the US gov't thinks the toys inside are dangerous. Edit: sorry about the block of text, it's my iPad.

  • @Nova726  Just little plastic toys. It's more that the U.S has deemed them a choking hazard.
  • damn, I thought there was something good hiding in those chocolate eggs.

The toys are pretty neat.  We have family in Chile that always sends us these at Christmas.  They do break easily though, so I get the choking thing.

  • Nanaimo bars
Holy crap, these are my favorite thing ever.  I have one Canadian friend IRL, and she used to make them for me.  She now lives in Italy, so my supply is gone, but OMG, they're so good.
  • Dill pickle chips! Humpty's brand is probably what he'll find in Toronto, but I grew up with Old Dutch in Alberta and they are the best!
I would also suggest Crunchie bar (sponge toffee covered in chocolate)
and Wine Gums! (chewy gummy candy in wine flavors- soooooooo gooooood)
And if you like soda/pop Lime Crush or Grape Crush (I never see them here in NY)
    ~Jenny~
  • Wait the US doean't have wine gums?!!? Well that seals the deal Canada for life!!
  • yeah I always have to get them when I go home. I usually grab a few rolls when I'm at the airport. For my birthday my sister sent me 2 big bags of them from Costco, along with 8 boxes of smarties, 8 Wunderbars, and 8 Coffee Crisps! I have the best sister ever.

They are very, very good indeed.

They aren't too much fun to make -- but they are worth it.  Here is a typical looking recipe.  (Just be sure to use butter and not margarine!  ;)
