swollen legs- cause for concern? xp on my bmb

So every time I've gone to the doctor, my bp has been low-normal. I have not had swelling up to this point. I had a very long day at work on my feet with the kids, followed by a 2 hour meeting on a hard wooden chair. I get home, take off my shoes and socks, and above where my sock line is my legs are swollen. Enough that is it very noticeable to me. My feet are a little puffy today too. I haven't had as much water as usual today, and I had a longer day than normal. Should I be concerned? I haven't felt well today, I can't lay my finger on what it is, no headache, minor aches and pains, but I just have an overall feeling of blah. Until I saw my legs I just contributed it to being tired. Should I be concerned and call the dr or should I just see if it goes down and if it happens again tomorrow? I dont want to worry myself, but I also dont want to ignore something that could be an issue...

Re: swollen legs- cause for concern? xp on my bmb

  • A friend of mine is right about 34 weeks and has to wear compression bandages on her legs to keep swelling down. Not sure why, but maybe just put a call in. From listening to her it sounded decently common later in pg. sorry, no specific answers as to why.

  • I had swelling iny hands and feet in 3rd tri especially if I had a long/rough day. If you are concerned of course call your doc but you should be good resting with your feet up and drinking water.

  • I have no reasons as to why either but I also had swollen feet towards the end of my pregnancy. At one of my appointments I told my Dr and she said it was normal and she really wasn't concerned at.all.

I have really skinny feet and they would get so swollen my mom would laugh at them. Lol. They looked weird and funny but it only happened after a long day.

Put your feet up and take it easy.
  • Thanks, I'm laying with my feet propped up and drinking a big bottle of water now. I am feeling better, and hopefully can sleep tonight.

  • Chiming in late, but my sister didn't have any swelling until she was in her 3rd tri too. Her feet got super puffy, especially if she were wearing sandals or flats. If she wore shoes that covered more, like boots or sneakers, her feet wouldn't have the room to swell and they'd stay more normal.

Glad you're relaxing and feeling a little better!

  • I think swelling is mostly a concern if its uneven and sudden....one leg swells but not the other. Otherwise it's pretty normal for late pregnancy especially if you've been on your feet a lot.

  • Here's a good article. It also says its a concern if your face or around your eyes swell.

  • swelling is normal towards the end. Especially if it goes away overnight or after you have been laying down with your feet up for a few hours. I think drs are more concerned when it is accompanied with high bp, or when only one leg is swelling.
