Teeth whitening.

What do you use? Have you had it done with that silly looking glowy thing at the dentist? (Zoom i think?) I haven't used the White Strips in probably 10 years,  but I hear they've improved? I have a bleach pen thing that my dentist gave me that I can use with my clear retainer things, but I don't like it because it's messy and annoying. So.. any recs? I want them to glow, like Ross.  Ok, maybe not THAT white, but I do want to whiten! :)

In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my LIGHT, my STRENGTH, and my SONG!

Re: Teeth whitening.

  • I used crest white strips before our wedding and they worked pretty well. My teeth got very sensitive with them. If I do them again I would so the 24 hour express one instead of 2 week ones.

  • Haha. I did it once at the dentist with the take home trays and gel for like two weeks and it worked great. Like 10 years later I had the zoom procedure done. It was just as effective but more expensive and my teeth HURTTTTT for like 2 weeks afterwards. It's just an awful lot of whitening in an hour. I'd personally recommend the take home trays with the prof strength stuff from the dentist.

  • I just talked to my dentist about the trays and gel and he said he doesn't even use the trays anymore.  He said that the strips are so good now that he just recommends those a couple times a year. He gave me the Venus White strips. They worked well, but made my teeth super sensitive.  I've also had good luck with Crest White Strips.

  • I've used Crest White Strips a couple of times. The first time, in college, I didn't have any problems, just some very minor sensitivity. I tried using them again before my wedding, and holy hell, my teeth hurt right away, Day 1! Needless to say, even only doing 1 set of strips per day instead of 2, I couldn't get through the whole 2 weeks. I haven't tried anything since; I'm too nervous my teeth will hurt again.

I tried using them before my wedding as well and only got through half the package.  My teeth hurt, but they did help whiten a bit.  Those 24 hour ones sound better instead of the 2 weeks.

  • Thanks y'all! I may just give my crappy trays another shot. They're just suck a pain! And the gel comes out funky so I'm always afraid of it missing a spot or something. I may need to buy a tiny little brush and paint it on then put the tray on. Thanks for the input :)

  • @cloudymeatballs, I also uses the Crest white strips and those did hurt my teeth also. This plus white 5 min gel hasnt' so far and I've been using it daily. I need to get mine much whiter! I have big teeth and they are already pretty white, but I bought a new lipstick that is cool tone (and I'm warm tone) its so pretty though but it it make my teeth look like a smoker yellow color, I am determined to get them florescent white in that lipstick!

Unlike Kandee, I would brush after, and since this video, I started brushing before and still no pain. Hopefully it works for you too!

As I move around the web learning more about whitening teeth as well as trying things on my own, I want to share a few of my findings. In terms of natural things you can do to brighten your smile, it is suggested you rub banana peel directly on your teeth, eat strawberries and brush with baking soda. I have not tried the banana peel yet, but it has grabbed my curiosity. If you want to take it up a step, you can use over the counter strips, which many of you have tried and experienced the uncomfortable heightened sensitivity. Ouch. You can buy an over the counter device, like the Pearl which uses a current to activate gel in a tray to whiten teeth, that does not hurt. The later is my choice and I encourage you to visit the site to learn more about the science. Btw, I have also paid for Dentist office treatments. Expensive.
