Is it you that's reading Sugar, Salt, Fat?  I couldn't remember who it was but then I saw you're trying to stay away from preservatives in the fend post.  I just started it on audio today and I find it very interesting so far.  I've started to read some of the other "food" books about how unnatural food is becoming but have put them down after awhile.  I think I'll end up sticking with this one though.

If it isn't you, sorry!  I can't remember who it was and I don't think we're GR friends to check.

If it is you, did you finish it?  Is it as disturbing as it sounds?

  • Yep, that was me.  I've had stomach problems my whole life and I've started being fairly conscientious about what I eat in the last couple of years and I've consequently noticed a big difference in my digestion.  The book was a little bit of a reconfirmation of what I mostly already knew, but it reaffirmed the feeling that what was bothering me was not food allergies after all but a general intolerance to non-food.  It was a good book and I keep voting for it as the food/cookbook book for Goodreads.

    All that being said, ask me about the Krispy Kremes I had for breakfast.  I know they're bad for me, but dammit, sometimes you want a donut!

  • We are trying to go as natural as we can with our foods while knowing that the indulging side is still going to happen from time to time.  We love going out to eat and it's nearly impossible for me to turn down a donut so there'll be times.  It's extremely difficult to change the way I see food or I guess non-food in this case because I was raised on junk/processed food.

     

    I'm hoping this ends up being a book DH would want to read too.

  • I was raised on that garbage, too.  Hamburger or Tuna Helper made a regular appearance, as did Stove Top Stuffing and the like.  Both my sister and I have gone the opposite way with our eating, but my brother and his wife eat the same garbage we had as kids and feed it to my nephew (who doesn't like many vegetables, either).  The real deal for me is that I just. feel. BETTER! when I eat quality whole foods. 

    Changing the way you eat is probably one of the hardest things you do because it's a habit you've had your entire life.  It just takes perseverance and time.  Having DH on board will help because you can keep each other in check.  :)

    Let me know what you think of the book when you've finished.  It took me a while to get through even though it's not terribly long.
