s/o TV - did/does anyone watch The Following?

I'm not even sure I had ever heard of this Kevin Bacon show on Fox before DH started us watching it on Netflix, but I was obsessed with it for the last two weeks.  The new season starts in January.  Just wondering if anyone else watches it.

  • We watched it, but I'm not sure if we'll watch the next season.  I was getting kind of tired of everybody-is-evil-and-no-one-can-be-trusted.  It was just getting ridiculous.  Every time they introduced a new character we were like, "no! don't talk to him!  he's One of Them!"

I'm starting to feel the same way about The Mentalist now that they've introduced a Secret Society of Evil too.  Oh! and Hostages.  And I'm a little nervous about Castle after last week.
  • Hahaha...I expected a list of shows. I get it now. I don't watch that particular show - I heard it was creepy!

  • @sfgiantsjo - it is kind of creepy, and really violent, but the suspense makes it kind of addictive, too.

@kaylynne - there were so many points during that whole first season when DH and I were like, really?  Like, why does no one ever have back-up, and why do people keep going off to places by themselves?  It did get kind of ridiculous with how elaborate and absurd it got toward the end, but I still couldn't stop watching. I need to at least start the second season because of how the last one ended.  I need to see what happens next.  I don't watch any of those other shows that you mentioned.  Are they similar to the Following with the single story line, or is each episode more stand alone, like Law & Order?

I loved it in the beginning and DH and I watched it obsessively.  Then it became way WAY too ridiculous and we couldn't watch it anymore.  I quit before he did and I would be sitting there making comments about how such and such a thing would never happen and how stupid were these cops etc.  That's when I knew I had to stop watching.  But, it was really good at first I thought!

  • I watched it as well and I'm sort of hoping they can fix the storyline this next season. I'll give it another season to determine if I continue :)

  • I watch and love it! Although I think KB is the worst cop ever. I mean, the guy makes HUGE mistakes EVERY episode! But, I really like the general premise and cast.
  • I love this show.  Hopefully they can get it back on track.

  • Yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one!  We just watched the whole first season in about 2 weeks, so I'm kind of dreading having to wait a whole week between episodes when it comes on in January!

Yeah... I was joking that the Following was like The Walking Dead for me (I root for the zombies because the people are too stupid to live).

The Mentalist is a crime procedural like Law and Order, but it has an over-aching plotline that has been going through all the seasons in addition to the regular crime-of-the-week.  The last few weeks have revealed that what we thought was one Big Bad is actually a huge conspiracy like the Following.

Hostages pretty much only has one plot - the family of a doctor who is supposed to perform surgery on the president has been taken hostage.  The bad guys expect the doctor to kill the president, but she keeps doing things to put it off, so now the bad guys are living with them and following them through their daily lives, and they have to try and keep it a secret.  But we keep finding out that the conspiracy is bigger and bigger - the actual hostage-takers are pretty low on the totem pole.

Castle is a procedural that usually has an additional season-long plot, but the last episode started to suggest there may be another conspiracy coming.

I watch way too much tv, I feel like there are more examples, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

ETA Person of Interest, Sleepy Hollow and Revolution also have secret society conspiracy plots.
  • I remember seeing the previews for Hostages!  It looked good, but then I forgot when it's on and we don't have DVR.  Perhaps when it makes it's way to Netflix or Amazon . . .
  • I really liked it. I'm interested to see how the story goes forward!

  • I watched the middle of it. It seemed really good and then everybody just kept stabbing each other and I gave up. My new obsession is The Killing.

I saw The Killing on Netflix, too, but we haven't watched it yet.  Now that you've said it's good, maybe we'll start it.  I feel kind of lost when I'm not in the middle of a Netflix TV show.
  • Did anyone watch The Philanthropist?  That's where I fell for James Purefoy.  It's our joke that if I absolutely love a show its first season, it gets cancelled.  :(

I like Sleppy Hollow, but it bugs me that Crane never changes his clothes.

I've never heard of The Philanthropist, but I do love James Purefoy.  I will add that to my list to look for on Netflix/Amazon.

I've never watched Sleepy Hollow.  I am interested in the new Dracula show, though.  I forgot when it was starting so I haven't seen it yet, but I heard it was on Amazon.
  • We watch Castle in syndication.  I'm also obsessed with Criminal Minds.

I know! right?  A few weeks ago they had him asking Abby if he fit in (I think he was talking about his hair), and I thought she might take him shopping, but alas....
That coat has got to be ripe.

So I am getting an error message on every post/reply since the change-over.  Usually it just goes through anyway, but yesterday and today it started going though as duplicates.  Anybody else having this prob?
  • We love The Following. I'm concerned about what will happen in the next season, especially since I saw a teaser for it last night that implied something that I wouldn't be too thrilled about. We'll see, I guess.

This fall, we have been obsessed with The Blacklist. Has anyone been watching that?

I asked something about it on Facebook and about a dozen of my friends said they loved it too. Three seasons are on Netflix right now. Even better? Netflix just agreed to pick it up for a fourth season as a Netflix-only series. Woot!
