Suggestions for glider?

DH is 6'1" and circling the 300-lb mark. I'm looking for a glider that he will be able to sit in as well when feeding the baby at night.

We are currently registered for a Shermag glider from Target, but everything I read says that it's really narrow, even for an average-sized woman.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm stumped.

Re: Suggestions for glider?

  • I'm no help but i'm curious to see what everyone else says because my DH isn't a small guy either
  • My H is 6'4" and about 290.  He tested out this one from Target, and really liked it.  He said it was wide enough for him, and he felt comfortable in it.

Otherwise we had discussed buying a rocking recliner for the nursery, but realized we would probably both be falling asleep in there on a consistent basis if we had a big comfy chair in there.

  • We also have a rocker recliner that we actually got from Sam's club.  It's big, cushy, and comfy. We've been using it for 3 years now and will be able to move it into the family room when the time comes.  We love it.  If you have the room, I'd definitely recommend one.

  • We got a hand me down rocker recliner from my parents (it also vibrates and has heat!) That we both love using. We like that you can push the back of the chair back and still rock which has worked well as she has gotten bigger and still wants to fall asleep on our chests.

We have it in the living room now :)

We also had a glider but it creaked and squeaked especially if DH sat in it and he got stuck in it once. All the different gliders at all the different daycares I worked at all creaked and squeaked. Plus as Ava Nichol got older Igot scared of her sticking her fingers in the glider part. My Brother has one that locks so that solved that problem for them. Just another thing to think about.

  • Here's a old picture of it from when it was in Delilah's nursery, so ypu can see what it looks like. We were also able to get it for about $175 because it was the last one and was a floor model.

  • Can you go into a store that has displays and try them out?

  • Maybe BRU. The Target near us doesn't have any on the floor.

  • You can at least find a comfortable one and look for similar dimensions.

  • We're just using my Grandmother's antique rocking chair! We don't have enough room for a glider.
