Proud IUD owner and adoption stuff.

Went to my gyno on Monday and got the Paragard IUD. I was terrified about it hurting, but it wasn't much worse than a normal pap smear. I'm still a little crampy but it's not too bad. I am so excited to not have to worry about birth control for a long time and really hope this thing works out.

In other news, my gyno told me that I have a tilted uterus. She believes that I could possibly be at risk for pre-term labor if I were to carry a pg past the 1st tri. I'm not worried as I am not planning a pregnancy in the near future, if ever. However, I am super curious how my RE didn't notice/mention this. It just seems weird that they were all up in my junk with u/s and stuff and didn't say anything.

Also, we went to an adoption agency info night last night. It was pretty overwhelming but helpful at the same time. I think it really helped my H as he had some inaccurate preconceived notions about adoption that they were able to clear up.  We are still saving up and doing research and planning on starting the process sometime early 2014.

That is all. I've been busy with work/family stuff and haven't posted much the past few days and have missed all of you!

Re: Proud IUD owner and adoption stuff.

  • Yay for the good news!  My new OBGYN told me I had an inverted uterus and no one had ever mentioned it to me before either.  I guess REs don't think that stuff is important?

Yeah it's probably not a big deal, she just said that it causes a slightly higher risk than otherwise. I'm sure most people with a tilted uterus are fine. Mostly it just baffles me that it was never mentioned before.

Maybe it is pretty common? :-)

Most likely! Just surprised it wasn't mentioned when my RE told me I have "a beautiful uterus and eggs."

I have a tilted uterus, too. My gyn told me it was the same as "Some people have small noses and some people have big noses. Some people are lefties and some people are righties."

Hmm interesting. My doc didn't have any trouble inserting the IUD so I figure that it wasn't a big deal. Dr. Google says 20% of women have a tipped uterus and that it rarely causes complications.
