My Mum asked Downton Abbey seasons for Christmas but I know nothing about it. How many seasons are there and is it still on? What season is it currently in?

Like I said maybe I'm wrong but just something to think about before you spend the money
I watched the first episode on PBS and immediately bought the unedited UK version and I am so glad I did. It is tragic that American viewers were not allowed to see the unedited UK version on PBS. So many fine moments were cut from the American PBS version and edited in a fashion that almost didn't make sense.
American viewers do yourselves a favor and order the unedited UK version of Downton Abbey!

But which version streams on Amazon? UK or US?
And why are they different in the first place? Somehow I doubt the UK version drops the f-bomb frequently...
