There was a report released 1 hour ago that they found and killed a Cougar only a few miles from my office. Yup, definitely staying inside the rest of the day.

Here's the article.  It was in a farmer's corn crib!  Aghk!  These things aren't supposed to live by us. Tomorrow is also the first day of deer hunting season.  I wouldn't be going out to the woods to hunt. No way.

  • Scary!! I would not want to come upon one of those beasties in the wild! They're gorgeous creatures, and I love all big cats, but I'd prefer the safety of some sort of barrier between me and kitty!

  • holy moly that is scary!  my husband on the other hand would think its sooo cool:)
  • There was one spotted wandering around my town back when I was younger. My neighbor saw it when he was out hunting one day. Someone at the junk yard saw it sunning itself on top of a junked RV.

We werent allowed outside alone for a while after that one.

  • I think it is a shame that they killed him :(

  • He was so cute! Do they not tranquilize and release them somewhere they belong near you?

  • That's incredibly sad. I wish they didn't publish the poor thing's picture. It didn't do anything wrong.

Totally unrelated (but adds to my sadness) my little cat is named Steve French after a stray mountain lion on Trailer Park Boys.

  • :(

I understand the danger, and I don't know the status of the cougar population in that area, but it makes me sad they decided it was necessary to kill him. I'm in the tranquilize and relocate camp. But I'm glad people in the area are safe.

  • I was really surprised they killed it and especially that they posted the picture of it. It definitely isn't normal for them to be in our area, but I know there's a lot of controversy now about how this was handled.   Yup, still locking my doors and staying inside anyway.

  • Yeah, better make sure those doors are locked. Everyone knows that cougars only come in through unlocked doors and windows. ;)
