  • I never go...well I went one year at like 9pm when the stores were empty bc I forgot I had a bridal shower to attend the next day and had no gift!   :-\"

Good luck to all of you who do it, though!

  • I'm holding strong, I don't want to be THAT person at walmart on Thanksgiving.  We want to get the kids the nabi tablet 2 so they have something to play on our trips to and from NC.  AND it's $100 off EACH at walmart.  It's so tempting, but I'm on the whole boyscott stores openning on thanksgiving.

  • NOT ME!  Never been black Friday shopping, never plan to.  I use that day to relax after all that family time and food :) We never buy big ticket items so, it's not necessary

I DID go once like like 4 years ago, late in the afternoon.  I got a winter coat at Sears for 60% off.  But it was like 2pm and not crazy at all.

  • If we were in Michigan with my family, I would be going.  My mom and sister go every year together. But, we will be in VA and H is picking up an extra security guard shift at the local outlet mall on Friday (yay for extra money) so I will be staying home. I may go out for a bit later in the day if there is something I want that will still be on sale then. Or, I may do some online shopping.

  • I'm with @nic12184 I am boycotting Black Friday starting on Thanksgiving.  Everyone deserves that time with their families.

I've gone out on Black Friday a few times, but really hated it.  I will do my shopping online, thank you very much!

  • I also agree with @nic12184 and don't like the idea of Black Friday on Thanksgiving.  I've been shopping on Black Friday once and it wasn't worth it at all.  We actually left empty handed and annoyed.  We now do all of our shopping online, especially on Cyber Monday.  There are so many good deals and with free shipping to and from, it's so much nicer and easier than going from one store to the other.

Also, this year we will be at the beach, so there isn't anywhere near to shop at even if we wanted to :)

  • I go out when I can but since I'm working 11pm to 7am this year on Thursday into Friday, I'm not doing it. I like to do the outlet shopping at midnight and really had a great time last year. I refuse to go to Walmart, etc to fight those crowds!
  • I am very anti Black Friday shopping and even more anti stores opening up on Thanksgiving.  I have a coworker who works at Toys R Us and she said they were paying a lot in overtime to get people to work.  It's terrible!  I agree with a few of you, let people be with their family and enjoy that time.

The holidays are so rushed, I saw back-to-school sales about 3 days after school ended last year.  Back-to-school was almost cleared out about 3 weeks before school was back in session to make room for Halloween.  I've seen some stores decorated for the holidays since Columbus Day weekend.  Nordstrom has the right idea.  They post a sign every year that they celebrate holidays one at a time and they will not have holiday decorations or sales until the day after Thanksgiving.

I feel you can get better sales on most items in October than on Black Friday.  I have never needed to buy a big ticket item, so I can't speak for those.  The rush, the rude people, the lines, all not worth it.  H will most likely have off on Friday.  We're just going to relax and digest the 2 Thanksgiving meals, Hanukkah meal and desserts that we will have eaten the day before.

I'll go out, but I'm not a crazy shopper. I don't go for anything big ticket, I just go for the experience more than anything. If I find something, awesome, if not, that's cool too. I like to go with friends because sometimes it's the only time we get together.

I don't like the idea of people having to work on Thanksgiving day either. I used to have to work Thanksgiving during the day when I worked for Walgreens. We had to work during celebration time, which really sucked. Although I don't like it, I will be there at midnight....I know, contradictory...

ETA: I know everyone says you can make a difference, but there are so many people who are going to go no matter what, they're not going to close because I'm not there, so I'm going to partake.

  • I have worked and shopped on black Friday before.
If I do partake in any sort of sales this year, they'll be online. I'll be out of town with the inlaws this year and am not sure how crazy Detroit is on that day.
